Many things were great about this hotel - I stayed in the dorm for 10 nights and you're basically getting hotel level service and amenities for dorm price, very value for money. New towels provided everyday, library and lounge were great (free alcohol and snacks, plus lovely hammocks and view of the lake), onsen was a good size with indoor and outdoor pools.
The one thing I didn't like was the material they used to construct the dorm capsules - thin wood that was very hollow, resulting in a deafening amplification of sound whenever your neighbours moved around you. If you're a light sleeper you might want to reconsider.
But otherwise, it was awesome, I would go back again!
The hotel is generally new and clean. The rooms have slightly low ceilings but are functional, and the bathroom is easy to use. It takes 9 minutes to walk from the station. However, the atmosphere along the way isn’t great due to solicitors from girls’ bars. That said, the service at the hotel is good, and the price is reasonable.
It is far from Tobu Niko station and relatively close to the main attractions. Of the pluses, two private onsens can be accommodated in two or three. One is laid out with a tile, the other is stone (used by a great demand, understandable case). If you take the onsen, no one will enter it anymore. To let the guests know whether the onsen is free and which special signal lamps are made, it is convenient. The Onsens work from 16 to 23 hours, so it is impossible to get down in the morning. Like I think, the water is cold and the rooms are closed - I love outdoors.
The breakfast was unexpected, but they are fed exclusively with different baking (for a long time, so many tests have not eaten). It is also possible to buy frozen dishes for cheap and immediately distribute them in a microwave.
In the bathroom and toilet room, the yucata is issued on demand.
A beautiful living room where you can sit in the evening (if not too many guests). Here, where to sit in the street evening, it is not very clear, because near the Onsens there is a smoke zone with shops, but there is not a very nice smell.
Really great stay in the hotel, very clean and staff were extremely friendly and helpful!! Japanese style room was so cozy and the view was fantastic!!! Really great view of the surrounding mountains and lake. -1 star for the location due to the difficulty to find it at night. There were no streetlights in the area so we didn't know there were footpaths and had to do the dangerous route via the vehicle road in pitch darkness. Dinner wasn't fantastic but is included in the stay. Breakfast was decent though :)
We booked a local Japanese B&B on short notice. The decor was a bit dated, with a British style and an artificial hot spring facility. The owner was very welcoming and the breakfast was delicious. Overall, it exceeded our expectations.
The service was exceptionally attentive and thorough. The hot spring water was superb, the facilities were comprehensive and well-appointed, and the food was also delicious.
The hotel is located on the plateau, a little remote, suitable for self-driving. It has beautiful scenery and complete children's play facilities, making it suitable for families with young children. Those who are worried about young children disturbing the family should be careful.
The hotel is very good, recommended by Japanese customers. It is very convenient for travel and to the customer's factory. The room is clean and tidy. Although small, it has everything. I will consider staying here again when I go on business trips in the future.
Very traditional Japanese Onsen hotel, enriched with lots of traditional Paintings, decorations and calligraphy. It is built within a valley and quiet garden, and my rooms are facing the garden with colorful marple leaves during the late autumn. They served very nice and well presented traditional Japanese foods in the evening and with an English speaking lady serving me with introductions of each kinds of food they served. It’s a very good experience, really enjoying the Japanese cuisine and their hospitality.

GGuest UserThe location is really good. 10 mins away from the station. Easy to find. Big hotel, about 11 floors. The room is quite spacious, part in western style with beds and part in japaneese with tatamis. There is sink in themiddle of the room, quite comfy. Good view to the mountain and forest from the window, 9th floor. Nice yukata to wear, i liked the outerpart. Breakfast and dinner is buffet, quite big choice, free beer for dinner, not so many fruits, no cakes for breakfast (dinner only). There is sushi and sashimi choice, delicious food. Onsen is quite good, clean, big. Will recommend to stay here
玩玩转星球-KevinThe most important buffet dinner during the stay was served very late, and the dishes were often empty, which is very rare in Japan.
Because it was less than 700 yuan and included two meals, although the hotel had many flaws, it was understandable, but the faucet in the room seemed to be broken, and the water flow was not smooth, which should be replaced.
Overall, this room was acceptable.

GGuest UserThe room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the view was great. The free cocktail and coffee services in the lobby were nice, as well as the free drink bar (including one beer per person) near the entrance to the hot spring. The paid massage service was also good. The meals were decent, especially the grilled beef, which simply melted in my mouth. The restaurant staff welcomed us warmly and provided friendly service.
Cons: The variety of hot springs was lacking, and the view from the hot springs was almost blocked, which was disappointing. The lockers for valuables used combination dials, and foreign guests often didn’t know how to use them, locking their room keys inside and struggling to reopen them. This was a major inconvenience. They should switch to a key-and-wristband system like other onsen hotels.
The room itself felt like an old, once-grand mansion that had seen better days. The furniture had many scratches, and the surfaces were worn and peeling. It made me think it must have been impressive in the past. Still, the room was definitely more spacious compared to other hotels.
KKush MathurFor a Regional area like Utsunomiya, I cannot help but rave about how amazing Candeo Hotel Utsonomiya is. Starting from the location; it’s not even 5 minutes from the station so if you have heavy suitcases; there’s barely any hassle to get to the hotel. There’s also a 7-11 right below the hotel so if you need a bite at 2-3 am, you know where to go: there’s also some amazing restaurants right below the hotel so id also say it’s super convenient. In terms of the room, the room was very well maintained with elegant design and very cozy. Room size was sufficient enough and also very comfortable. And the breakfast is just amazing. Every day different soups and just delicious salads with super fresh fruit. 6 out of 5 on the breakfast. And lastly the service, just very very helpful and extremely polite and patient. Some understood English and some understood basic but with google translate it was a piece of cake. They also helped me transfer my luggage from their hotel to the next in another city. Overall just a 5 on 5 rating for every aspect of the hotel.
GGuest UserThis was my first time for staying in ryokan. This ryokan has such a delight, warming services and very nice hotel staffs. Although I can not speak japanese, the language did not bring me any problems because we could use google translate and some of the innkeeper can speak English. I felt like I stay in my home and very enjoyed interacting with both hotel staffs and shiobara people. Besides, foods there were so delicious.
- traditional japanese food: they wrote a welcome note and descriptions of food in paper (in japanese) eg. Fish came from river beside hotel, everything was from local which I really really love it.
- local venison(deer meat): must try yakiniku
If you wanna avoid chaotic environment in the city, I would reccommend this place because you would feel a part of nature (natural sound is so nice) and you can find a true calm of your soul.
We were very surprised because we were only foreigner tourist in the hotel.
Thank you innkeeper and staff for caring us. We always miss there when we come back to busy city!
AAnonymous UserThe hotel is about 20 minutes away from Kinugawa Onsen Station. We arrived in the morning and there was no shuttle bus to the hotel. We waited for a while at the taxi station but there was no car, so we walked to the hotel. It is recommended to tell the hotel the arrival time and ask the hotel to book a taxi. When leaving, we booked a shuttle bus in advance. The shuttle bus fee is 300 yen per person.
The hot spring in the hotel is comfortable, and the dinner is a buffet, which is very rich.
GGuest UserAlthough located at the Nikko town centre, the area is a bit quiet with not many shops around. It is closed to the Kanman-ga-fuchi Abyss. Hotel room is big, and the river view is excellent. The onsen is good. Besides traditional inside & outside onsen, there is also jaccuzi style pool. The dinner and breakfast are also taste good.
CcckentThe hotel is great! The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with many facilities like karaoke, a game center, and more. I visited with my family, a total of 14 people, and they were able to arrange a private room for us for both dinner and breakfast. Both meals were buffet-style and absolutely delicious.
The onsen experience was wonderful, and the view from the onsen was fantastic, with a beautiful view of the Kinugawa River.
However, there was one issue: when we checked in, the reception took our passports for photocopying. Unfortunately, they missed returning one of the passports to us. It wasn’t until after we checked out and reached our next stop that we realized one passport was missing. We had to go back to the hotel to take it.
Despite this, the overall experience was great, and I would still recommend the hotel.
