Baseline Surveys & Habitat Mapping | Grow Wilder

Baseline Surveys & Habitat Mapping | Grow Wilder

Sep 27, 2025 (UTC+1)
Bristol
Cultural Experiences
Habitat mapping is an important element of land management, applicable in your own green space, whether it be a garden you want to cater to wildlife, a community group you’re part of looking to support a bigger green space, or whether you’re interested to understand wildlife in a more formal capacity. By understanding the species that are historically present on or using a site, you are more well equipped to understand what improvements need to be made for the space to optimise the value for local species. You may have a very standard site, you may have a particularly interesting plant or butterfly or bat you want to bring back to the area, or you may want to improve the general value of the space for common species. This day course will cover the basic principles of habitat map creation, and considerations for planning and carrying out baseline surveys. Note: this workshop is a general introduction and will not be teaching or using UK Habitat Classification methodology. This course is aimed at young people looking to work in the wildlife sector, amatuer naturalists, early career ecologists, people active in community nature projects, sustainability leads in organisations and people looking to understand and plan a green space in a more structured and pragmatic way. Please note this course will run subject to meeting a minimum number of participants. Information Source: Avon Wildlife Trust | eventbrite
Barbell 301: SFL Ready Workshop—Bristol, UK | StrengthLab

Barbell 301: SFL Ready Workshop—Bristol, UK | StrengthLab

Sep 27, 2025 (UTC+1)
Bristol
Sports & Fitness
Prerequisites To attend this workshop, you need to be competent in the deadlift (either conventional or sumo), the bench press, and the military press. Learn these skills from a Barbell 101 workshop , a Barbell 201 workshop , a StrongFirst accredited gym , or a StrongFirst certified SFL instructor . Ignore at your peril; you may find yourself standing around taking notes. INSTRUCTOR David Szego , StrongFirst Certified Team Leader (include hyperlink to your profile page) SCHEDULE Saturday 27 September 1200 BST Registration Time 11.45 CONTACT This workshop is organized and licensed by Claire Booth Training LTD . Email all registration and other questions to claire@bodyology.co.uk. Registration Cancellation by Participant: Registration fees are non-refundable. No refunds will be granted. Registrants may transfer their registration to another person for no fee. Barbell 301: SFL Ready The final step in your journey towards the StrongFirst Lifter Instructor Certification is mastering the squat. If you are committed to building as much muscle as your frame can carry, you must back squat—there are no “ifs” or “buts” about it. Done right, the Back Squat is a builder with no equals. Done wrong, it can wreck you for good. Our instruction is obsessively precise. The Front Squat is more democratic. For most athletes it is a better choice than the back squat—unless hypertrophy is the top priority. The Good Morning is another “restricted entry” exercise. It is the “grind” counterpart of the kettlebell swing. The GM trains the entire posterior chain, from the base of your skull to your feet. Strength gains directly carry over to the SQ, the DL, and great many athletic applications. Barbell 301 will give you all the tools to prepare for the most exclusive and detailed barbell strength instructor certification—StrongFirst Lifter (SFL)—including an exact training cycle specially designed to prepare you for the tests. Sign up and power to you! Information Source: Claire Booth Training LTD | eventbrite
PINK Tribute - Vicky Jackson & Her Band | The Fleece

PINK Tribute - Vicky Jackson & Her Band | The Fleece

Vicky Jackson’s Tribute to Pink has been a run-away success and has consistently been her most booked act since 2008. Whilst the Pink Tribute show was not her first tribute act, Vicky found herself being compared both physically and vocally when performing Pink songs during her solo shows, so a tribute act to Pink seemed like a very natural step. It quickly became Vicky’s signature act. A massive Pink fan herself, Vicky has regularly attended her UK concerts to search for inspiration for her tribute shows. She has worked closely with costume makers in order to replicate a range of costumes that not only keep her Pink Tribute Show bang up-to-date, but one that also gives audience members less familiar with Pink’s later work some ‘classic looks’ making the show accessible to everyone in the room. Cleverly edited medleys enable Vicky to pack such a huge back catalogue into a high energy and engaging show. With Pink’s career stretching back as far as 2000, her debut single (the R&B inspired ‘There You Go’) kicked off a back catalogue that has so far given us over 30 hits (check Wikipedia if you don’t believe us!!). Her widespread appeal continues to grow today, with hit singles still being released off the late 2012 album ‘The Truth About Love’.This massive range of material has been perfect for creating shows that appeal to a wide variety of audiences. Butlin’s have booked this Pink Tribute show for the last four years, where a family friendly version, complete with tactfully altered swearing consistently goes down a storm. Pink’s massive popularity with the LGBT demographic has meant that Vicky has built a huge following in this community, appearing at many Gay Pride show’s across the UK and into Europe. Her loyal, dedicated and mobile fan base and strong social media presence ensures she regularly packs out gay friendly venues and has lead to her winning the Midland Zone Magazine’s ‘Best Cabaret Award’ by a public vote three years in a row. Vicky has performed well over a thousand shows as Pink over a seven year period, and is the most vocally accurate, aesthetically similar tribute act to Pink available in the UK & Europe. Vicky’s decade of experience as a performer makes every show a huge success and regular repeat bookings from a wide range of satisfied clients are testament to this. In this face to face session, we will be looking at the foundation of species and habitat protection; the plan of action to achieve measured change. What makes a priority habitat? Why are some species internationally protected and how do landscape designations, such as SNCI'S (Sites of Nature Conservation Interest) and SSSI's (Sites of Special Scientific Interest), function to protect wildlife?Together we will look at: Key websites that list species of conservation concern and landscape designations around your area. Site designations in the UK ranging from Local Wildlife Sites all the way up to Internationally protected RAMSAR sites, helping you to understand how these protections function in relation to your site. Water; are there any waterbodies in the site? If not, is it suitable to introduce one? If so, what is the condition of it? Visible pollution? Who owns it and what are their constraints? Food; is there habitat and food for invertebrates on site? What are your target species? Are you supporting the foundational elements of a healthy food web? Connectivity: How does a space connect with its wider environment? Management: How can traditional techniques significantly improve a space for wildlife? Focusing on habitat mosaics and reducing 'human centric' design. This course is aimed at amatuer naturalists, people active in community nature projects, sustainability leads in organisations and people looking to improve a green space for nature in a more structured and pragmatic way. DUBIOZA KOLEKTIV - Once upon a time (2003) in a dubious corner of the world and a land called Bosnia and Herzegovina, a group of friends decided to form a band. But this was no ordinary band, and they did not form under ordinary circumstances. True, along with local Balkan flavors, musical influences came from all over the world: ska, punk, reggae, electronic, hip-hop. Yet, there was no music industry, few concerts, and no space for cultural or political expression among the new crop of plugged in youth. In fact, the entire region was reeling from a deep moral and economic post-war stagnation. It was from this environment that Dubioza Kolektiv was born, and not quietly, but kicking and screaming, presenting no-go topics front and center, and demanding to be heard. In doing so, they created a phenomenon. Information Source: The Fleece Bristol | eventbrite

Workshop: Deepening Our Therapeutic Practice through Nature and the Natural Self Description: Members of the teaching team from Natural Academy and developers of The Grenian Ecotherapy hub at Ham Green near Bristol, will draw on the Natural Self Ecotherapy (NSET) model, developed by Natural Academy. Through this experiential learning day, they will invite participants into a deeper relationship with their own sense of presence, self-regulation, and therapeutic attunement. Rooted in trauma-informed, eco-centred and reciprocal processes. The day will expore how working with nature can enhance therapeutic holding, enable embodied listening, and support lasting integration for clients. It will highlight this developing modality and how it meets the multiple crises that we all face. This session is suitable for counsellors, psychotherapists, and wellbeing professionals curious about expanding their practice into nature-based approaches. Cultural Experiences
Join us for an insightful talk exploring how ADHD uniquely affects women – from late or missed diagnoses to the emotional toll of being misunderstood. Despite growing awareness, many women are still overlooked or misdiagnosed due to outdated assumptions and gender bias. Drawing on the latest research and real-life experiences, we’ll unpack key topics including emotional regulation, masking, burnout and Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria. We’ll also explore how hormonal changes can intensify ADHD symptoms – and what can be done to support wellbeing throughout these shifts. This talk takes a neuro-affirming approach, offering practical strategies and insights to empower women to better understand themselves and advocate for the support they need. Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7:30pm - come down early to grab a good seat! Family Events
Bristol Parent Carer Forum hosts coffee mornings from schools for parent carers of children and young adults that have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). There is no need to book but if you can, that is helpful. Please come along for a chat with our volunteers and other families who “get it”. We are happy to talk through any problems or issues you are facing over a nice cup of tea (or coffee!) and you can find out more information on what support is available locally for your child or a child you care for. If you need additional support to access this coffee morning such as support with English or other adjustments, please let us know. An important role of the Parent Carer Forum is to hear about the experiences of parent carers in Bristol. We would like to hear from you about your experiences with SEND services so that we can be sure that your voice is heard and that we can shape the future of SEND services together.
