In this 2-hour course you will learn the basics of 2D graphic design for a wide range of tools in the makerspace including the laser, vinyl cutter, CNC, and embroidery machine.
2D design is also useful for creating patterns and templates for woodworking, stained glass, and sewing. In this course we will introduce you the basic tools and operations in the free, open source software Inkscape (www.inkscape.org), guiding you from a blank page to a pattern ready for making. In the second half of the course, there will be time for questions and help with project ideas.
HIGHLY RECCOMENDED: Bring your own laptop and have Inkscape downloaded.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop computer to work alongside the instructor. Inkscape is available on all of the LMS computers, however only one computer in the classroom will be available for use during the class.
**Closed toe shoes are required. Ages 12 and up can attend. Attendees under the age of 18 must have a guardian present at all times.

- 7 calendar days or more before the class start date: Refunds will be given, minus a 10% service fee (Eventbrite fees non-refundable)
- 6 calendar days to 2 days before class start date: Refunds, minus a 10% service fee, will be issued in the form of a credit voucher to be applied to a future offering within 1-year of the issue date.

Instructor Bio
:
 James Dietrich is an environmental scientist and former makerspace leader with more than 10 years of experience across the making spectrum including working with wood, metal, stone, plastic, and electronics. James is well versed in using Inkscape for all of his making including scientific diagrams, logos, and designs for digital fabrication technology including laser, CNC, and vinyl cutters.
