The Badian Resort is best for the secluded getaway or just a quiet rest.  You must get yourself by taxi or other vehicle to their pick-up pier where you be greeted by someone from their security team.  He will verify you are expected and call one of their speedy water taxis and in 5 minutes you will arrive on the island where you will be met by one of their friendly staff.  I was given a welcome flower to wear.  I was quickly checked in, then personally escorted to my cabana.  The room was very attractive, clean, safe, well laid out, quiet, roomy, and comfortable.  Note:  the room (my room) had neither teIevision nor phone - which was fine by me.  WiFi was great.  Cellular was zero.  Yes, this is secluded.  I arrived too late to use their pool, which closes at 5pm.  Had a great dinner there with a large selection to order from.  Breakfast was good, but not as good as dinner.  The Badian’s grounds are fairly large.  There didn’t seem to be other businesses or places to go on this island, so the focus is the resort.   I liked it very much and would definitely recommend it for anyone looking a laid back experience.

Everything is great except the TV channels are too few. No netflix or great tv channels to choose from. Television model is small and outdated. Aside from mentioned above, everything is great, the amenities, service, cleanliness and the overall experience is cozy. Checking in made me feel Im in a 5 star hotel. The rooms design and ambiance is modern. Great city view from the pool deck. Only downside is the swimming pool is too narrow and small.

This was one of the finest trips I have ever experienced, and I would eagerly return to the Philippines solely to stay at this resort. While there were some initial issues with bugs, the staff responded promptly and demonstrated exceptional kindness, significantly enhancing my overall satisfaction. However, the problem-solving procedures could benefit from greater professionalism, akin to what is found in high-end hotels. Overall, the experience was truly outstanding.

Stay was honestly good. Service was good. Like a proper 5 star hotel. There are pools on both levels 4 and 5. Staff was helpful and professional. Spotted a roach in the bedroom but didn't see it anymore. So no issues.

Everything was perfect but then during Dinner at sea breeze went crowded due to private group also have to dine at the buffet and they were aloooottt!!! I just hope they arrange it separately outside since their tables were outside. The ambiance inside was like at the supermarket. Nevertheless, the beach, pool, rooms, staffs are all great! Will definitely be back.

We booked two rooms and we were only able to get one room when we checked in and the other room an hour and a half after! We followed up multiple times and complained about how the room wasn’t ready when it’s already the check-in time. They told us that the staff was already on the way up to bring the key card for the other room yet it took a long time (given the fact that the rooms were just at the second floor, above the lobby) when we followed up for the third time, we were told that the card was being brought from the main wing that’s why it’s taking so long like? we literally got the key card from our first room on the front desk lobby below our floor (ocean wing). They are also very strict about the room capacity that you have to pay 3k plus to pay for an extra person unlike other four-five star hotels. The room was also dusty, my boyfriend kept sneezing non-stop when we went in the room and had to take anti-histamine. Facilities were great though.

Henann Tawala is a good choice in terms of location, service and food. However, the beach-front pools have been made exclusive to Henann Alona guests. It's a shame, it would have been a nice, relaxing alternative to watch the sunset, and listen to the band while sipping piña colada, since beach-front daybeds get collected and packed up at 6p.m. so if you want sunsets and live music, make sure to find your spot early on the sand since a LOT of people are gonna be there, it is a public beach after all.

My stay at the hotel was great. The staff were so nice and friendly, and while there was only one restaurant on site, there was a strip mall next door with multiple dining options and several souvenir shops. There were some empty storefronts, but these appear to be the lingering effects of the long pandemic shutdown. The grounds and beachfront were pretty and well-maintained, and there is a looong beachfront to walk. The nearby town and Alona Beach were accessible, but aside from doing a city tour and a countryside tour, the latter of which included visiting the Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier Sanctuary, my friends and I felt no need to leave the resort for the rest of our stay. I know the rating should just be on our stay, but the reason I rated Modala less than excellent was because my pre-trip preparations were less than ideal. We needed information on airport transfers and tours in advance of our stay, and communications were an ordeal. So much follow-up was needed, with multiple communications repeating the same questions trying to get responses, and I used phone calls, e-mails, and texts. Phone calls were best, if only you could get someone to answer the phone, as e-mails and texts were mostly ignored. Responses tended to be incomplete, but at least on a phone call you can keep ”clarifying” your question. In the end, some questions were left till we arrived at the resort, and could speak to them face to face.

BBubbleChimpGood for experienced divers but not for new divers, solo travellers, relaxing beach time or a deluxe experience even though it was £200+ a night so I did not think it was good value. For me it was just the wrong choice and I didn't do enough research. The main disappointment comes down to me basing my expectations on the price instead of the 3 star rating. I haven't paid that much for a hotel before and usually go for 4 or 5 star places so I just don't understand the pricing, maybe that's just how it is in the Philippines. The staff and service are good, breakfast and the room are ok, spa and diving are the good amenities so it might be the diving location which warrants the price. Lunch and dinner are good. I recommend the honey yoghurt muesli with mango and the chicken salad (with a dressing) for breakfast. Everything I had on the lunch/dinner menu was great - the tom kha gai soup, Dorado, burger, curry etc all good. Small range of beers and cocktails available but cocktails were good too. The room and bathroom are fine for 3 star standards. There is termite stuff falling from the wood beams and dead moths or similar insects on shelves which did not get cleaned away. The Swedish massage was good, I recommend Gail. The shiatsu was painful and pinched my skin so she switched to Swedish. The pool is murky and not enticing to swim in, lots of mozzies around it too. I much preferred the beach and water conditions further down at Dauin. I like to relax on a nice beach and swim etc. that's where the great snorkeling is too. But the water at Atlantis is too rough and windy and the beach too narrow. Although the dive masters are great for leading dives and probably for the other diving skills, I wouldn't recommend getting your open water certificate here especially if you're at all nervous about it. There were some differences with the SSI videos like being able to practise boat entry in the pool first and using a snorkel that I would have preferred what with the condition of the water there. The beach, water and entry conditions are so much better 20-30min down the beach at Dauin, Bongo Bongo beach. I managed to earn my open water and it was the reason for this trip but it wasn't a pleasant experience and I watched the divers enter at Dauin quite jealously. Considering you can do 4-5 dives a day here plus a day for Apo island, I think 3-4 days here would be perfect. The hotel tour prices were a bit more expensive than others I found and they do not arrange joiner tours so as a solo traveller, their tours were prohibitively expensive. For some reason there were no joiner tours available outside the hotel either, I don't know if that's because of the season (jan-feb) or that's usual for the Philippines but it's the first time I've experienced that in my travels. The tour to Apo Island is good and well arranged. The only thing is as a snorkeler you have to wait until after lunch to get to the shallow turtle area but it was great and a benefit of going with the hotel is you leave on their boat right from the hotel, no need to drive to the ferry.

GGioTAll bookings at Nustar Resort include breakfast and access to the Executive Club Lounge located on the 23rd floor of Fili Hotel. Mini-Bar is complimentary with a selection of 2 local beers, juices, and sodas. Nespresso machine with 4 capsules. TWG tea. Bottled water is unlimited. I appreciate the fridge being very cold. Gerlain Paris branded bathroom amenities, as well as bath salts for the large bath. Afternoon Tea (2:30 pm - 4:30 pm) Light snacks with a limited selection of savory and sweet bites, they need to improve on this. Evening cocktails and canapés (5:30 pm - 7:30 pm) Excellent food buffet. I like the lechon quesadillas, jalapeño cheese poppers, and siomai. I appreciate the bartender crafting cocktails from a menu of drinks. I understand the hotel is still brand new, but they need to do multiple inspections before releasing the room to guest. Vanity mirror was dusty from construction. The Butler service was very attentive, many thanks to Ice (Butler) for making my stay pleasant, he would escort me to the pool, and even breakfast buffet at Fili Hotel bypassing the crowd at the entrance. Breakfast Buffet is at Fili Hotel which is extensive and one of the best in Cebu. The problem is the crowd, while Nustar Butlers will escort Nustar guests to a table, there’s no dedicated tables for Nustar guests, which confuses the restaurant staff with seating assignments. Alternatively, the breakfast buffet at the executive club lounge is quiet but with limited options, they should have an a la carte menu to expand options like other international luxury hotels. The security at the lobby entrance is wildly inconvenient and inconsistent, every time you enter you need to prove you’re a guest of Nustar and not a guest of Fili or a casino player. It’s weird that they are sometimes overly strict and many times just ignore people passing by. Guests have a keycard to use elevators what’s the point of the guards that have a list of people’s names and room numbers, if anything that’s a security risk. The pool service is lacking. Shared between 2 hotels and the upcoming grand summit. The pool area lacks service of a 5-star hotel, towels need to be claimed at a towel hut. My expectation is that there are staff that will setup loungers with towels for guests. And since the pool facility is shared with the muncher large Fili Hotel it can get crowded. Fortunately, Nustar has a private infinity pool which was closed my stay. Nustar Resort has potential to be Cebu’s most luxurious hotel, they have the hard product with their spacious luxurious rooms, but they need to improve their soft product - the service from the butlers are outstanding and personal, but everyone else seems to be lost. For the asking price of 250-300 usd per night there’s a lot to expect. Nustar is primed for excellence but falls just short of achieving refined luxury. I’m hoping Nustar partners with Marriott and rebrand under Luxury Collection. Or even Hyatt with Unbound Collection.

TTable_for_3We just returned home from Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan. It was our first time in Cebu. It was a short but great trip. The highlights: Accommodations: We chose Crimson because we frequent high-rise hotels when traveling and decided this time we wanted a villa/bungalow type of room. No hallways and no elevators. Crimson checked those boxes. They also accommodated our requests for a king bed and first floor room. Activities and amenities: Our daughter loved Crimzone and the children’s pool. It was hard to get her to leave. The Saturday foam party was fun and the pool staff were engaging. My wife and I both availed the spa and wow, we can see why they won an award for Best Value in Asia. The price was affordable while the quality of service was top-notch. Food: The buffet breakfast was good and had a lot of variety. My favorite item was the fruit and veggie smoothies. Who knew bakchoy and mango blend well together? But it was the attentive staff that really made breakfast a great experience. We tried the 24-hour room service and I swear the chicken club sandwich was one of the best I’ve had in my entire life 5/5! The lowlights: Here are some reasons why we are not giving Crimson an excellent review. 1. Overpriced/low quality food in Saffron during ala carte dinner. Our first night we arrived in the evening and were hungry. For two people (our daughter is a toddler) we paid over 5000php for an appetizer, 3 entrees, one beer and one bottle of water. Honestly, the price would be ok for this amount of food if the quality was better. I would suggest Aka or Enye for higher quality food although we didn’t try either. Saffron was empty that night and we found out why. 2. Distance to places/sites. Crimson is quite far for shopping or eating at other restaurants. We hired a private car for 3 hours and was only able to visit two sites and one pasalubong store. Luckily it was only moderate traffic on that Saturday. 2500php for a sedan for 3 hours was reasonable. 3. The gift shop is waaaay overpriced. 950php for a small tube of sunblock seemed very high even at a resort. We also wanted some souvenirs, but there wasn’t much variety at all. 4. Our room needed some TLC. The paint in the nice tub was chipping, the caulking in the showers could use a refresh and there was a huge ipis (roach) in the closet. Luckily we spent most of the time outside the room. 5. No floaties or life vests for toddlers to use, even for rental. Despite having almost everything else, this would have been a nice touch. 6. We came to Cebu for mangoes and lechon, but Crimson didn’t offer these items and again, because of distance, it would have been nice to have some at the hotel. The bottom line: We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it to others, however we would give them our full review so they are aware of the pros and cons. Thank you to the wonderful staff that made up for the minor issues we encountered!

CCarl PaulI’ve stayed in many five-star hotels around Lapu-Lapu, and unfortunately, this property falls short of that standard. The room was relatively small and underwhelming, especially considering the nightly rate of $280 (around 15,500 pesos). Overall, the resort doesn’t compare favorably to its competitors in the area. Upon arrival, we headed to the pool and asked for towels, only to be told to come back in 30 minutes as they were still drying, not the kind of service you expect from a high-end resort. There were also no poolside activities or amenities for children, making it less suitable for families. If you want to use the children’s play area, there’s an extra charge of 300 pesos per child per hour, and you have to walk all the way back to the check-in counter to pay. Frankly, that felt like a rip-off. Safety-wise, be cautious walking around as there were small puddles on the floor, likely caused by condensation dripping from air-conditioning pipes above, an obvious slip hazard that should be addressed. Also, don't let your young kids near the elevator lobby windows. They are low level and open outwards.  The buffet breakfast was another letdown. The food was presented poorly, served lukewarm, and surprisingly lacked basic breakfast staples like sausage or bacon, something I’ve never encountered before in a hotel of this caliber. Even more concerning was the presence of pet dogs in the dining area during breakfast, which we found off-putting. While the sunset views are beautiful, they’re somewhat marred by the rusting ship hull of visible just offshore, a visual distraction that takes away from the otherwise scenic waterfront. On a brighter note, we had drinks and dinner at the sports bar twice, where the service was excellent and the food enjoyable. However, ordering would be more efficient if they adopted a QR code system instead of relying on guests to find a server. Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again. For better service, amenities, and overall experience, I’d recommend the Shangri-La or Sheraton, both of which offer a far superior pool, beach area, and level of hospitality. In fact I find Costabella Beach Resort much better services and amenities for a fraction of the price!

DDan_de_LionIt gets too crowded especially during the buffet breakfast but at least they refill the food quite fast with great options. Love that they provide complimentary birthday greetings upon request. A lot of activities to choose from, entertainment at night with a fire dance as the highlight and pool options too. Place is indeed a 5 star experience.

DDaniela1975Beautiful in a minimalistic style, two nice pool areas, one with infinity pool. We stayed for just one night, and we were mostly out of the hotel on day tours. Breakfast was very good, dinner was okay, not great. Compared to other hotels we stayed in the Philippines, this one is on the small side and maybe less family-friendly, more for couples.
