Quinta de Sao Luiz the Vine House

Chambre spacieuse avec vue plongeante sur le Douro. L’ensemble de l’hôtel est décoré avec énormément de goût. Petit déjeuner magnifique et personnel très attentionné. Je reviendrai volontiers lors d’un prochain voyage. La visite de la cave est comprise mais sans grand intérêt.

The welcome that we got on check- in was the most warm and professional that we have had anywhere in the Douro so far. Our room was huge with excellent views, a Nespresso , powerful shower, excellent air conditioning and very comfortable bed. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant. Staff do so much to make you comfortable and make excellent suggestions for wine pairing. This is a working vineyard and your stay includes a free tour and tasting , which is very interesting. The hotel is quite new and in very good condition . There is an infinity pool with beautiful views . Like most of the hotels with great views in this region, the drive up to the hotel is along a scary narrow driveway, but here they have a clever traffic light system to ensure you do not meet a huge truck coming the other way. In an areas with so many hyper- expensive 5 star hotels , it was great to find such a stylish yet affordable alternative. Big enough to offer facilities , but small enough that personal touch and hospitality is not lost.

Quinta Sao Luiz, Douro Valley: The entrance foreboded a romantic story and a dramatic entrance of plunging stunning terraced vineyards. There is a deck area with classy deck chairs where you can feast to the stunning views. But the tour was disappointing. The guide seemed disinterested and was barely audible since he was barely even speaking. He made wine a dull, dry and insipid. Unlike the Kopke range of wines we tried. #eatstylishtravelstylish

Nous avons séjourné deux nuits dans cette magnifique quinta. La chambre était superbe, moderne et confortable. La vue depuis la terrasse privée est éblouissante. Le personnel est gentil et attentionné et l’une d’elle parle français. Le petit-déjeuner est quelconque (style buffet). L’expérience la moins intéressante de notre séjour a d’ailleurs été le repas du soir. La carte nous semblait invitante, quoique courte. Nous avions pris la précaution de réserver, mais nous étions finalement seuls dans le restaurant, ce qui aurait dû nous alerter. Cela dit, nous voulions savourer un bon repas sans prendre la voiture. On nous informe que l’un des deux plats de viande sur la carte (celui que nous voulions, bien sûr!), n’est pas disponible. On prend donc un plat de morue et riz (24 euros) qui se révèlera être le pire de notre voyage de 3 semaines au Portugal. Horriblement salé et triste, liquide et pas appétissant. Aucun geste commercial offert en retour. Par ailleurs, la visite du vignoble effectuée le matin était plus qu’expéditive (25-30 minutes au maximum, en anglais), avec une guide qui fournit de l’information générale et qui semble seulement avoir hâte d’en finir. Pas vraiment de place aux questions. Par chance, cette visite était incluse dans notre forfait. Bref, on recommande pour l’hébergement uniquement.

We only went there for dinner. Poor experience. Pork cachaço and Arouquesa was quiet good. Cod rice was very poor , salted and the rice to watery ( I suspect that there was a delay , rice became to dry and they just added hot water. The cheese and "enchidos" plate was good. Wine also good , the option we choosed. Slow and poor service! poured the wine for tasting and served the person that tasted the wine. That's not the correct procedure. The wine is given for tasting than it's served to the ladies , starting from the oldest and the latest to be served is the one who tasted it. We asked for the menu and only one was handled and again given to me instead of the ladies. Wrong. When paying the waiter handled me the multibanco device , passing it just in front of my wife. Wrong ! the right thing to do was to come by my side and handled it. Emplyoees speak to much with the clients ! it was a torture to listen to them , they should limit to the essential information requested. Expensive considering the price/quality Not to repeat
