We visited PSB Hotel in May 2025 for one week. LOCATION. Alvor is an old fishing village which has developed into a very nice resort, about an hour and a half from the airport. The hotel is right beside the beach, about a 15 minute walk from the centre of Alvor town. The hotel is in a very quiet area, at night totally silent. There are restaurants and cafes within a 5 minute walk, together with a good supermarket. Prices are very good in cafes and restaurants. HOTEL BUILDING. The hotel is quite small which gives it a more relaxed atmosphere, rather than the corporate ambience experienced at larger hotels. There is one large open plan area which includes the reception, dining area, bar and pool terrace. Although I was told the hotel was nearly full there was plenty of space and nothing felt hurried. There is a separate beach bar/restaurant. POOL AREA. The pool area is laid out very nicely. Plenty of sun loungers, although one or two are starting to show signs of use and are sagging a little. Plenty of room for everyone. Pool towels can be changed daily. ROOMS. Our room was west facing with a sea view albeit at a slight angle. Excellent air con. We had a small ante room with a sofa bed and a wall mounted tv. The bathroom was very nice with good tpiletries. Towels changed twice a day if you wanted it and bathrobes with slippers provided. The bedroom also had a tv, although I could only find Sky news and the awful BBC World. The mattress probably needs replaced as it had dips where previous users had been sleeping. Like a lot of hotels, the pillows were too soft, but maybe that is just me. FOOD. We were B&B as we like to go out to see around. Breakfast was a buffet with fruit, cereals, bread, cheese, ham, porridge, fruit salad, croissants, Danish pastries, local sweet buns (lovely) and a small hot food selection with scrambled and hard booked eggs. It took us two days to realise we could order omelette or poached eggs (there is a small sign, but I missed it). With all that variety, this seems a strange comment but it did feel a bit samey after a few days. There is no variety in the ham and cheese (only packaged slices). As often the case, the food in the buffet could be cold it also took a long time for items to be replaced when they ran out There was champagne available for those who want it. NIGGLES. As I said above, maybe a new mattress and harder pillow. Perhaps a cook cooking the omelettes as in the system used, you order from one of the staff who, maybe 5 minutes later arrives at your table, then you have to go and get whatever you want with it. We have been on scores of continental holidays over the past 40 years and for a 4 star hotel the breakfast didn't seem quite up to standard. Being at the beach, behind the sand dunes there were a lot of small flies about. THE BEST BIT. There is no doubt here. All of the staff are terrific. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Our first encounter when we arrived was with Kristina in reception who
