We like a good Sunday lunch so it's a shame we never found one here. The restaurant was empty but we thought it might be just that they had recently changed hands and the word hadn't yet got out! There was an air of 'old' about the dining area -and not in the Olde worlde sense . It smelt musty and quite uninviting. We both ordered the ' half roast chicken ' which sadly appears as just 2 overcooked legs. Veg was good l, carrots in particular were lovely but certainly not £25 worth of lovely. There was minimal gravy and couldn't ask for more as no one came back during the meal to check in as to how we were doing. At the end of the meal, there was no asking how it was from the staff ( perhaps they knew what the answer would be) Staff need training in hospitality, Nepalese chefs need training in roast dinners if they are going to offer them. ( I'm sure the Nepalese dishes on the menu were great but not what we went for) Paid £50 for a very poor dinner and wouldn't go back.

I gather it's recently changed owners and the reviews definitely do not reflect how it is/looks now, from the outside it seems like a typical picturesque english village pub/guest house, the beer garden is really lovely. However, when you step inside, the interior is drab and dated whilst the rooms are possibly worse, very tired with dirty looking carpets. There were a lot of flies congregating on the window in our en suite which immediately put me off. On the plus side, our beds were comfy and the breakfast was tasty, but the service was really poor. On checking in we were advised not to go for breakfast too early so we opted for 0900,when we went downstairs there weren't any staff present although I could hear coooking in the kitchen. After perhaps 20 mins our order for coffee was taken, which arrived another 10 mins later. I had to ask for breakfast and the total time for that to arrive was around 1hr 10 mins. I also asked if we could have orange juice and was given one glass a few minutes later, not great considering there were two of us dining. I suspect that there simply isn't enough staff on duty and possibly those that are there don't have much/any service experience. It really looks like it's being run on a shoestring and is suffering because of this, judging by the previous glowing reviews,I suspect within a few months this will be a place you'll want to avoid at all costs.

We booked a twin room for the night to be closer to Heathrow. The stairwell was filthy narrow and very difficult to get suitcases up. The beds were OK. Only 1 big towel for the 2 of us and I much smaller towel. The bathroom and shower are very cramped and hard to move in. We woke up in the morning for 8am breakfast- as we had paid for, but everything was locked. We knocked on the doors and ventured around to find someone but nothing. Outside all the empty glasses were still on the tables. I would definitely suggest you look elsewhere to stay. For the price we paid and to receive no breakfast, it was very over priced and the photos on the site are nothing like what you get

We stayed for 3 nights over the bank holiday. The pub is situated in a quiet village. The room was adequate. Could do with modernisation. It was clean enough but basic. Had to ask for clean towels. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Cooked breakfast was nice. There was a selection of cereals but no yoghurt or fruit, fruit juice or pastries. The main disappointment was that public area closed at 10pm on Saturday and 7pm on Sunday. The outside seating area was lovely and there is a separate side entrance for guests.

Positives: friendly staff, tea/biscuits, nice location. Negatives: the room was a bit shabby and in need of redecoration. The main reason for the low score is that it wasn’t very clean. The linen was fresh, but there was lots of dust in corners, and some grime on bathroom surfaces and walls. It obviously hasn’t been throughly cleaned for some time. Breakfast was late to start one morning. Far too much vinegar (which isn’t at all necessary) in the poached eggs.

My wife and I spent two nights there. The pub is lovely and our bedroom was spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom very nice with a properly working bath and shower. Food was a delight both evening dinners and breakfasts. My pot of tea had two tea bags instead of the usual one and it was quality Yorkshire tea too...a nice touch. The staff were fantastic, so friendly and attentive nothing being too much trouble. We said we might be late back having attended a funeral and they said that if the chef had gone home by then one of them could prepare some food for us...wow!! Richard the boss was on hand most of the time and what a lovely guy he is. The locals using the pub were great too. Can be a bit noisy if there is a do on but it's a pub that has functions and you have to accept that's how it is. Large carpark and the pub even had the village shop in the front garden open early morning till late at night. Maximum effort all round to make this place a success and they are certainly doing that. Thank you all at the Potters Arms. Made a sad occasion much less so.

Must have been an off day ! Staff were lovely and attentive but the food was dreadful. I always praise when good or say when not . I had the fish and chips . The fish had been drowned in cooking oil yet was barely cooked. My wife couldn’t eat the Thai curry. We couldn’t complain as friends had booked it ! Maybe just a Tuesday lunchtime with no chef ?
