"The hotel is situated right next to the North Station, which handles metro services but not trains. It's just two metro stops away from the Central Station. Exiting the station, a quick right turn and a short walk lead you straight there, making transportation incredibly convenient. The surrounding area is quite vibrant, featuring shops, restaurants, and two supermarkets (Lidl and Jumbo) close by. Inside, the hotel is well-maintained, clean, and tidy. Both the room and bathroom were adequately spacious. Despite the windows not opening, the hotel offers excellent ventilation. The front desk staff were all wonderful and very friendly."

"Check in was fast and easy. Just need to pay city tax and deposit for the place in either cash or credit (they accept both), cash is returned upon check out. Staff were friendly, amenities in room were good. They have most utensils and they even provide washing up products. Locations is good as it's nearby the bus station, train station. There isn't much to do around this area but there's a shopping area where locals goes so that's great as u will find prices for things cheaper than in Amsterdam city centre."

"Located 7km outside the city Center. Train ride cost E4.30/way takes 5mins to reach the central station while the metro cost E3.40 & takes 30mins. Rooms & toilets are clean. Self-laundry cost E11/wash & dry. Service at front desk are polite & responsive. Esp front office manager Rister G. Esquivel, very helpful and bright personality. Takes extra effort to make you feel at home. The only issue I have is the hotel corridor is very dark and the breakfast menu doesn't change during my 4 nights there. Standard breakfast. Recommend to eat outside."

"The room was bigger than expected, with super comfortable beds (a bit smaller in size but great sleep quality). Sound insulation was excellent, so the room was quiet and relaxing. Check-in was smooth and there were always staff around to help; same for check-out and luggage storage, which made everything very convenient. The bathroom was spacious and clean, though I personally don’t like the half-glass shower door design, as it tends to make the outside shower we, but otherwise it was great. Cleaning was spotless and done daily. We didn’t include breakfast at first but decided to try it later, it was definitely worth the €22.50 per person. There were plenty of choices, and the smoked salmon, olives, and cheese section were especially nice. Honestly, breakfast cafés in Amsterdam cost about the same or more, so having a full buffet here felt like good value. There isn’t much going on immediately around the hotel, but it’s right next to a metro station that takes you to the central area in just a few minutes. A great option if you prefer to stay somewhere quieter yet well connected."

"I had a pretty good experience at this hotel. The location is convenient, just a free ferry ride to the city center. The room was clean, tidy, and exactly as described. I paid extra for a private room for my daughter, and everything was well-prepared. I didn’t interact much with the staff, but whenever I needed help, they responded quickly and professionally. I also met some nice roommates, which made the stay even more pleasant."

"The room is clean and big, but the location is not that close to central Amsterdam. For transportation, walking for around 10 minutes can take the tram to the city centre. Supermarkets within walking distance. The hotel has several vending machines, and even a pizza, so you don't need to worry about supper late at night."

"The rooms are clean and quite spacious, with a decent location just 10 minutes walk from a metro, bus and train station. It is right next to the Ajax stadium, so very convenient for football travellers. The breakfasts are very good and freely available each morning. Bike rental is also available, for 20 euros a day or 14 euros for three hours, which is handy. There are interesting sights and sculptures within 2 minutes walk of the hotel."

"I chose the hotel as it’s close to the event venue I’m attending . The room was very good - clean , spacious, big windows that can be open a bit for fresh air circulation. Love this. And the view of the room was spectacular especially in the morning and evening. Service was average , the counter staff pushed me to sign up for their membership for ‘early check in’ —- I was there at 12+pm and was in a hurry to attend my event. Saying that, the experience was general good."

"The hotel rooms should have a mini refrigerator for Medicines and Cold Drinks. In addition, this hotel chain should consider offering wash cloths to use. I had to use a huge hand towel in the shower which becomes very heavy when wet and just an overkill for bathing. There should be a community microwave to use in the lobby since they do not want to put one in every room. The hotel makes good pizza."

Amazing
RRicardoWe were amazed by this charming little hotel in the Joordan neighborhood, an ideal area for exploring the city on foot. We stayed in the penthouse suite, a very special and romantic attic space, both the room and the common areas are full of charming details that add to other surprises that they give you during your stay and at check out time. All staff were very friendly, going out of their way to accommodate every need. The possibility of having hot drinks at any time, even snacks in the afternoon, is a plus during a time as cold as December, we only wanted to try the breakfast, which looked great and was reasonably priced.

FFRISOExcellent room, excellent location and atmosphere of the hotel. Staff however, too often, go according to the 'book', and find it hard to think and improvise on the spot. It's as if they are under trained. When checking in there is no need to ask the guest to fill info on the iPad. You have this info, to stay in touch, already. Don't burden the weary traveler with trivial nonsense. If the sun shines, finally after weeks of grey and rain, and a guest sees the patio with tables in the sun, and this guest wants to have tea in the sun outside in the patio, this has to be a possibility. Don't say, well it's not the season so it's closed, it doesn't make sense, you're a top hotel, not the vander Valk. Improvise, think on your feet, explain that he is welcome to sit there and that his tea will be brought out, but it might take a few minutes longer. This way the guest feels listened to and that the moon is even possible. The kitchen is incredible, the food is wonderful. Last evening I had dinner at the Jansz., two ladies working, were very kind, helpful and attentive, they understood the delicate balance between asking how things are going and leaving the guest alone. I want them to know i appreciate them. Please extend my gratitude to them. Also the Asian looking lady who worked during breakfast this morning, was excellent. Please let her know as well. Finally, the staff at the entrance - getting cabs etc. - are great. Some of the male staff are too - in Dutch, popy yoopy. I am your guest and not your friend. That's all, and that's enough. Thank you for a great stay and I hope to come back again when I am back in the Netherlands. Kind regards, Diederik Lugt

MMaxi_If you like being in the centre of things, then this hotel is for you. It is located near Dam Square and not far from the main railway station (easily accessible on foot), and there are also several tram stops nearby, as well as many places where you can buy souvenirs or food. Our room was quiet, as the windows overlooked some kind of courtyard or something like that. The room itself was medium-sized, quite comfortable for two people. However, the room was dusty, with many easily accessible places that felt like they hadn't been cleaned in a couple of months. As for the bed and bathroom, they were generally clean enough, but not perfect. The staff were friendly and checked us in a little early at no extra charge.

GGuest UserAmazing Find! Five Stars We stayed in Hotel Van Gelder for two nights in June at the end of a month-long European tour. Amsterdam, in line with most European cities, has become really expensive in the past few years. So we were happy to find somewhere close to the main train station that was reasonably inexpensive and well-reviewed. What an amazing find. We were so lucky. The hotel is a few hundred metres from the train station near where the canal boat tours leave from. The hotel entrance is very unassuming and is just a doorway leading up to a lovely surprise. We arrived early and were warmly welcomed by the guy at reception. We had requested a quiet room doubting it was possible at such a prime location. Fortunately, the hotel extends back from the main street and the room we got was not only spacious and spotlessly clean, but also quiet. The real highlight of our stay was the staff at the hotel. Everyone we met was extremely helpful and friendly. The reception staff couldn't do enough to help. Nothing was a problem. The entire hotel was spotlessly clean with some of the hardest working cleaning staff I have ever seen. We will definitely be staying here in the future and highly recommend it.

GGuest UserThe lobby of the Amsterdam Library Hotel is really the layout of the library, and the smell of books is strong when you enter the door. Less than 10 minutes from the central railway station, go left at the main entrance of the train station, cross the tram, walk along the road, there is a bus station at the entrance of the hotel, it is easy to find. The 24-hour front desk, the waiter is very enthusiastic, will tell you in detail where to go, live here safely and comfortably.

LLauraVReview of Our Stay at a Hotel in Amsterdam We recently stayed at a hotel in Amsterdam and had a mix of positive and negative experiences. First, let's start with the positives: What We Liked: The premises were quite nice. There's a bar downstairs, which is a great spot to unwind. Additionally, there are a few supermarkets and a traditional Dutch bakery right across the street, which made grabbing snacks and breakfast super convenient. The location is fantastic—just an 8-minute walk to the train station and a 4-minute walk to the bus and tram stops, making it easy to get around the city. The room was just as shown in the pictures. The mattress was comfortable, and there was ample space to organize our belongings during our stay. The receptionists were really kind and welcoming, which made our check-in and stay more pleasant. We also enjoyed the style of the hotel, especially the lovely lobby with two pianos, a comfortable sofa, and some books and local information to relax and read. What We Didn't Like: While we had read other reviews about noise issues and poor sound isolation, we thought we'd be okay with it, considering our home is located in a town center near nightclubs. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. The noise wasn't from people talking but from doors slamming. From 11 pm until 3 am, there was a constant door slamming that made the floor and walls in our room vibrate every two to three minutes. It felt like we were next to a staff room or had a very active neighbor. To be able to sleep, we had to watch a movie until the slamming finally stopped. This constant noise didn't allow us to rest properly, and we woke up later than we wanted the next day. The slamming continued on the following day, so we decided to stay out as late as possible to avoid it. Fortunately, around 2 am, the noise decreased, and we managed to sleep. Additionally, there was a funny smell in the corridors and the toilet. I found it unpleasant, but my husband wasn't bothered by it. If you are sensitive to smells, this might be something to consider. However, if you're not particularly sensitive, like my husband, it might not be an issue. Conclusion: Overall, while the hotel's location, amenities, and staff were great, the noise from door slamming and the smell in the corridors were significant drawbacks for us. If these issues could be addressed, it would make for a much more pleasant stay.

TT. ÇınarIt was a fascinating 3-day-journey. I really liked the hotel and the staff… They welcome you at the reception with a kind big smile. They gave two magnets while check-in and 3 key rings while checking out as presents. Hotel’s location is very close (7-8 mins on food) to Sloterdijk Station which you can have access to train, metro, tram, public and international bus. The room was clean. They changed the towels and cleaned the room on the second day. The bed was so comfortable and big enough. There was also a microwave oven, fridge, kettle and coffee/tea bags… The only missing things are air condition and hair dryer.. there was a fan which works but seems mot enough to cool down the room. If I come to Amsterdam one more time, I will stay there again.
