I’ve stayed at many hotels around the world, including over 10 resorts in the Maldives—but Angaga Resort is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. First, the hygiene was appalling. I found two large cockroaches in the villa and a smaller one on the bed. The toilet was stained yellow, and there was a thick layer of dust under the bed. The filthy conditions made my entire stay physically and mentally distressing. Second, the staff were rude and dismissive. In the restaurant, tables were not seated on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, staff assigned table numbers arbitrarily, solely for their own convenience—not the guests’. Even worse, they called me by my table number instead of my name—cold, impersonal, and disrespectful. Third—and most disturbing—I was robbed. On the day I checked in, I placed a $20 bill in my jacket pocket, intending to break it into smaller bills for tipping later. I accidentally left the jacket in the restaurant after dinner. The next morning, I retrieved it—only to find the $20 replaced with a $5 bill. This wasn’t a mistake—it was a calculated move by someone experienced in theft. Unfortunately, the problems didn’t stop there. I chose Angaga for its snorkeling, but most of the coral is bleached and dead, marine life is limited, and the overwater villa area is constantly disturbed by seaplane noise—hardly the peaceful retreat I hoped for. Angaga is not just the worst resort in the Maldives—it’s the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at, anywhere in the world. Avoid it at all costs.
