Grupotel Macarella Suites & Spa

This was our second visit to the Macarella having visited last year. Overall a very enjoyable holiday and all staff very friendly and welcoming aside from the rude barman by the pool who wasn't particularly friendly (not Dario who was excellent). Special mention to Augustin in the restaurant and Antonio who went out of their way to help me regarding food choices for one of my children who has a severe peanut allergy. My only criticism would be the all the breakfast cakes and pastries and desserts were labelled altogether this year, so unfortunately my son couldn't eat any of them or other people with allergies. Luckily Augustin was very helpful and kind and ensured my son got a peanut free desert each evening. Overall we had a lovely stay at the Macarella and thoroughly enjoyed.

Hôtel correcte, personnel gentil, bonne piscine. Par contre c’est de très loin le plus mauvais hôtel que j’ai fréquenté en matière de nourriture. Plats froids, il manquait de tout en permanence et je ne parle même pas de ce qui était proposé, niveau cantine bas de gamme et encore, avec des pâtes qui trempaient encore dans un fond d’eau par exemple. Il distribuent les crevettes ou gambas quasiment à l’unité. Je ne vois pas d’autre explication que la recherche d’économies sur ce point. Plus jamais ce groupe d’hôtel.

Another wonderful holiday- thank you Macarella! Not very often do we return to the same hotel however we loved this place so much last year, that we decided to stay again. And it was just as good. It’s so clean, elegant and traditional, keeping up with Menorcas natural beauty as the only unspoilt Balearic island. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, food is spectacular and the poor area fabulous. Only minor thing was a couple of grumpy staff this year which could have dampened it slightly, but we didn’t allow them to. And the majority of the staff are wonderful. Las instalaciones en general muy cuidadas, el servicio de limpieza excepcional, tienen política de sostenibilidad para el lavado de toallas. El personal de restaurante muy amable, el servicio de desayuno muy completo con showcooking. La piscina es ideal para relajarse y descansar y además cuenta con spa. La ubicación es ideal muy cerca a la playa, además tiene cerca supermercado, tienda de souvenirs, parada de bus y taxi.

This was our third visit to the Grupotel Macarella (albeit with an 11 year gap for various reasons) and it is just as good as we remembered. The apartment style rooms give you plenty of room to spread out, it's great to have a kitchen area with enough equipment for teas and coffees and preparing lunches. There is a full size fridge too, and a table and chairs. The bedroom was spacious with comfortable beds and a choice of firm or soft pillows. The balcony is plenty big enough, with a proper table (not a coffee table) and comfy chairs. We were amused to see that there were 2 TVs, one in the lounge area and one in the bedroom. We never switched either of them on! I would rather have had some more sockets for charging phones etc. The bathroom was fine, my only grumble was that the over-the-bath shower in our room did not have an adjustable rail and the shower head was so high that I couldn't reach it! I agree with other reviewers about the friendly and efficient staff, the cleanliness, the uncrowded dining room, the wide choice of food, and the availability of sunbeds at any time of day. There are lots of places within reach, a lovely beach, the marina with its shops etc. and other walks around the resort. You can get the bus to Ciutadella too. If you want a restful, relaxed holiday without having to queue for meals, lifts or space in the pool, then the Macarella is ideal for you. it isn't the cheapest hotel, but you get what you pay for.
