The Spice Trail

Great expectations but didn’t deliver over all. However most of the staff were more than helpful but not necessarily trained. Lack of finishing whole tasks properly and not given full information e.g. when arrived, it was not explained how the paid breakfast package works excepted for you have to order Sri Lankan breakfast the night before. There were other issues but no where in the world have have we ever had to pay for some milk to put in my tea!!!! Ridiculous.

We had a brilliant stay at Spice Trail. People were friendly and had a calm disposition. The food was really good, yummy breakfasts both Sri Lankan and western. Rooms were spacious and comfy, beautiful surroundings with the gardens and the pool was amazing. The cafe Kaffi had great coffee with a brand new coffee machine and yummy treats. Highly recommend staying here.

We stayed here 2 nights during off season as we wanted to experience a little of a luxury stay. Prices are quite high for what it is and we found that the staff (receptionist) was not very friendly compared to other places in Sri Lanka. The pool is very beautiful and enjoyable and the rooms too.

Beautiful hotel and grounds with pool, excellently maintained by friendly helpful staff. The rooms are spacious with a private outdoor space. Thoughtful details such as free glass bottled water refilled each day, umbrellas, beach throws (as well as the pool towels provided). The breakfast options are imaginative and served on their own delicious home made bread. On the main road and so very close to other eating options and beach but the rooms and pool area are set well back and very tranquil. We stayed in the low season and so we often had the pool area to ourselves.

We went during the off season in Arugam bey. We were friendly welcomed by Ashan. Spacious Rooms and nice swimming pool. Alacarte breakfast was properly prepared. Breakfast felt luxurious. Cocktails needs improvement. Prabanjini, Darshan ,Suvikanth tried their best to provide an exceptionall service. Want to come back during the season.

We decided to treat ourselves to a little luxury in Arugam Bay and the Spice Trail fitted the bill. We loved the swimming pool and the location which was handy to everything, including the surf break. The rooms themselves are huge and very clean. We really liked the small things like a broom in the room to sweep out any sand that found its way inside. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, with a very clean mosquito net. The bathroom is also huge with great shower pressure and plenty of storage. We found the little garden useful for drying clothes on the rack, but due to the heat we didn’t sit out there a lot. We had breakfast included in the price and enjoyed fresh fruit and juice every morning, along with a choice of Japanese inspired egg dishes. The coffee from Kaffe out front is amazing. Try their cakes too. Last but not least - the staff were amazing. Ready to help with anything and so friendly! We’d definitely stay here again if we return to Arugam Bay.
