What has happened tothe previously good outside dining?? This year it was dreadful. The Chicken Coop. What a shame. The only food options were deep fried chicken, prawns or mushrooms!! We saw no one eating! Also we were surrounded by wasps. When we asked we were told that it was bad luck!! Have they not heard of pest control?? Hopefully next year will be better!

Rundown rooms that are meant to be newly refurbished ⸻ My Experience at Gleneagles Hotel, Scotland I booked Gleneagles for myself and my son, wanting us both to have beautiful rooms. On their website, I found rooms advertised as “newly refurbished”, costing £1,300 per night. That reassured me, because older hotels can sometimes have tired, rundown rooms. I booked through Amex Centurion, which confirmed everything and usually secures an upgrade if available. I checked online and saw higher-category rooms available, yet no upgrade was offered. When we arrived, our rooms were not ready at 12 noon, despite Amex’s guaranteed 12pm check-in. The hotel told us they would text when the rooms were ready. At 1:35pm, they said they were still working on them. We didn’t actually pick up our keys until 9:45pm, after dinner at the Dormie golf restaurant (where the Indian food was very good). No one showed us to our rooms. When I arrived, I found the door left wide open, our luggage inside, and the room itself a huge disappointment. The carpets were old and stained, the furniture and closets chipped and damaged, and the overall feel was nothing close to “newly refurbished.” When I phoned reception, it took three attempts and 20 minutes before anyone answered. I was told the rooms were last refurbished in 2018—which, in 2025, is hardly “newly refurbished.” The next morning, I went for breakfast. The buffet looked attractive, but the cooked food was shockingly poor—sausages shriveled, bacon and hash browns greasy and dry, tomatoes limp, scrambled eggs dry, fried eggs floating in oil, baked beans trays empty. It looked no better than a motorway café. Hoping for better, I ordered freshly cooked items, only to discover they simply pulled them from the same buffet. We then played golf, which was the highlight—the course was in excellent condition. Returning to my room, I noticed a splashed drink down the wall outside, which had not been cleaned, even after I reported it. The next morning we had an early tee time at 8am. I asked reception what time the driving range opened. They told me 9am, which I knew was wrong. When I pressed them, two receptionists actually confirmed to each other that it was 9am, before finally checking and coming back to say it was 7am. This lack of basic knowledge is simply not acceptable at a hotel of this calibre. Dinner in The Strathearn was a different story—absolutely superb. The smoked salmon carved at the table was outstanding, and the service was excellent. This restaurant remains my favourite part of Gleneagles, and the staff there were marvellous. I’ve been coming here for over 30 years. It’s always been an iconic property, and that’s why this stay was such a disappointment. At £1,300 per night, you expect flawless rooms, knowledgeable staff, and a truly 5-star experience. Instead, what I found was tired accommodation, inconsistent service, and serious lapses in quality control. My suggestion to the owners and management

Gleneagles is a wonderful outdoor playground. Shooting, tennis, golf, nature walks and a fabulous spa. The staff are a great credit to the hotel and the rooms are spacious and luxurious. 2nd visit this year so far and will make another one before the year is out.

We have been every year to Gleneagles for a number of years and it has always been a wonderful experience, but this year there was something missing - difficult to put one’s finger on but the sparkle has disappeared and the previous perfect service has become a bit haphazard - for example staff not clearing dirty dishes at breakfast, having to wait one hour in the dormy house for our main course, and where are the lovely scones at breakfast? I even think a lot of the pastries have been bought in. But our biggest disappointment was the lack of availability for activities and classes - I suggest they monitor the number of denied requests and take appropriate action. When we stayed before it was very noticeable that staff generally addressed one by name - that personal element has disappeared- despite staying 5 nights I was still “sir” at the end of the stay - let’s hope Gleneagles can return to its former glory SOON

Bestes Hotel das ich erlebt habe. Sehr aufmerksames Personal, exzellentes Essen, super Umgebung und gepflegte Gärten. Nicht billig, aber auf jeden Fall lohnenswert!
