Hartwell House & Spa

Lovely setting, plenty of on-site walks. The decor in the public rooms is to die for. The room we had was immaculately clean, equipped with everything we needed for a short break. The food is delicious. But what makes this hotel is the staff. Cheerful, attentive, nothing too much trouble. I have a food allergy & it was catered for without fuss and with a smile.

We stayed here for 5 days recently and I cannot speak more highly of the hotel. Everything was splendid - meals, rooms, and front of house. The house itself is in a most delightful rural location but is close to many interesting places and the meals in the evening have been a highlight. Thank you all.

This is a stunningly beautiful place to stay, probably at any time but certainly in a sunny Maytime. Both the hotel and the grounds are immaculately maintained. You can take afternoon tea in the library where the meteorological society was founded in 1850 and ascend to your room via the amazing staircase that the wife of Louis XVIII loathed. Our room was stunning and reassuringly old-fashioned: proper keys and lights that just switched on and off … and the view was gorgeous. The staff know their stuff and are very helpful. We didn’t have dinner but breakfast was excellent: best kippers I’ve had in years. The spa is well-maintained. It’s a little small but there’s a sun-trap courtyard and the therapists are very good. We last went at least six years ago and it’s probably better now. We’d return like a shot

An excellent welcome from all the very kind and friendly staff. Beautiful location and an historic house. Calm and quiet. Good food and wine and very comfortable rooms. Plenty of space in the public rooms so you never feel crowded and wonderful walks in the grounds

A visit to Hartwell House for Afternoon Tea was a gift. The hotel is set is a lovely location and is very quiet once you leave the road. The house is steeped in history and provides a lot of interest to those who appreciate that. We spend two hours being served delightful sandwiches and cakes. The food was very well made and we could not eat it all, leaving with a box of what we couldn't eat. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The whole experience was a delight.

Stunning historic house and grounds. Superb wine and dinner. Staff absolutely top notch.
