Geiser Grand Hotel

A Masterclass in Mismanagement and Misconduct Where do I begin? If you’re considering booking this hotel for an event, group stay, or anything requiring basic organization and professionalism — do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. The owner clearly believes she’s the smartest person in the room, yet consistently proves herself to be the weakest link in every part of this operation. Event coordination? A disaster. Nothing runs on time, communication is scatterbrained at best, and guests are left confused or neglected. Group management? An absolute joke. Rooms get mixed up, arrangements fall through, and no one seems to know what’s going on — especially the staff, who clearly suffer from a lack of leadership. And speaking of staff: it’s hard to blame them when their example at the top is so toxic. The owner is rude, condescending, and seems to take pride in making others feel small. Her behavior lacks class, grace, and even the most basic sense of hospitality. She’s not just unprofessional — she’s actively unpleasant. This place could be something decent if it were run by someone with an ounce of humility and competence. Unfortunately, it’s not. What you get instead is a hotel dragged down by arrogance, poor planning, and a complete lack of respect for guests or employees. Steer clear. You’ll thank yourself later.

Fabulous! Everyone is so kind and works hard to please. Barbara our group planner went above and beyond and made sure we were all taken care of. No stone left unturned! Dinner was delicious! My room! My bed! Swoon. Comfortable meticulously clean .. even the pillows were perfect . When does that happen? Five stars. Thanks!

First off let me say that the limited staff that works here is absolutely awesome but that's were it ends. The room was decent size but the bed was old and stained. They say this place is ******* and my back felt like I went 12 rounds with Mike Tyson. The owner was incredibly snappy and rude to customers and her staff. I purposely avoided this women to make sure I would not get in trouble. The add says free parking. Thats not true. Parking is $12 a night. They have no parking lot. Food for our event was not good. Brisket was as tough and dry as jerky from 7-11. Vegetables were mush and potatoes were blah at best. Breakfast we were told with a not 1 morning 2 sausages per person. Marinara sauce for lunch tasted worse then a school lunch. Tasted like grape jelly. The entire location smelled damp and musty. Sound equipment was very cheap and malfunctioned often. I do not recommend this facilty for any group meeting, stay or meal.

We have travel through Baker City many times over the years. It was 2 years ago that we decided to spend a night in this beautiful hotel. So after staying in 2023, we decided to stay again in 2024. Now as we plan to come through again Sept 2025, we are looking forward to staying once again at the Geiser Grand Hotel. The Hotel is historically beautiful. We were in Baker for a reunion and stayed here one night. It was clean and the staff were friendly. This is a beautiful old historic hotel and I wish we could have stayed another night, but had to get back to reality. One suggestion would be to have coffee available early in the morning. We’re early risers and actually left the hotel to find a cup of coffee.

If you enjoy historic 19th century hotels the Geiser Grand should be high on your list to visit. Created by the riches of a gold rush this place has been restored nicely. We had a king suite on the 2nd floor that was absolutely spacious with a separate sitting area and sleeping area. The bathroom was quite large and reasonably well lit and had counter and storage for your personal care items. The curtains are not room darkening. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The AC unit is a bit noisy but does cool the room. Check in went smoothly with Ramon being very helpful loading up our luggage and bringing it up to our room. We chose the valet parking so we didn't need to search for a place to park our car overnight. For dinner we dined in the restaurant and were impressed by the large number of options and had a very enjoyable experience. We both chose to try a pot pie at the recommendation of our server Mark who was assisting Elizabeth. They were wonderful. There was another woman working that night in the bar who was also great and very helpful but we neglected to her name. Since we are speaking of staff I think it would be good to note that for the most part (excepting Mark) staff at the Geiser Grand are clearly inexperienced. But they definitely are trying hard and display good attitudes. In the morning we had breakfast in the bar (where they serve breakfast) and Elizabeth was again our server. Very enjoyable. The daily (cherry) pastry (croissant) was outstanding. The yogurt with fruit compote was nice but would benefit from an option to add granola or something similar. The eggs Benedict were outstanding. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Geiser Grand, staying multiple nights so you can take in the daily tour at 2:30 PM.
