The Sun Inn at Hook Norton

I stayed here with my boyfriend, my sister and her partner, as well as my parents. We all had a room each (which we were all nosy to check lol). No complaints whatsoever, we had rooms 3, 5 & 6. Bed was comfy and good bathroom, perfect for our one night stay. If we needed any milk or extra water, we could go downstairs to a fridge to grab this whatever time.. even when the pub was shut. Food was delicious, and the staff were great. Really nice outside space and good pool table and darts. They had a live band too which was nice. Enough and good variety on the menu for all starters, mains and desert. Quick service and we got a birthday discount too of food. We would go again or stay at one of the other hotel/pub locations. We had loads of towels provided, as well as shower gel and hair shampoo/conditioner. There was a fan in the room, but we didn’t need to use it. No complaints whatsoever (and I moan a lot lol). A lovely breakfast in the morning with loads of options… full English/salmon and eggs/pancakes. Delicious! Really good value for money.

We were pleased with the breakfast on Sunday morning as we could order off a menu but then the next 2 mornings was only a few small items to pick from. Monday morning there was a person to help out if we needed anything but Tuesday morning there was no one to be found. When I went to pay for the stay (it said to pay at property) I had to leave the money with cleaning staff. Then I get an email that says they charged my card on the first day so they ended up keeping my money and putting a credit on my card. We were frustrated with lack of communication and the idea that no one was there to check you out and take your key was baffling to us. Otherwise everything was fine.

The most rude staff known to man. I would strongly suggest a little walk further to the Pear Inn, far nicer staff! The main bar man was vile. Rude, unhelpful and an absolute buzz kill. Shame as we would have spent a good amount there had we decided to stay.

The staff in the pub were nice and friendly. My husband and I stayed here overnight for a trip to the local brewery, we had a bite to eat before our tour, which was very nice, we checked in around 4.30 pm, we were shown to our room which was very small, the mattress on the bed in room 2 is seriously passed its sell by date, it was really soft and you could hear and feel the springs, I really should have asked if we could change rooms, we had dinner in the evening, the pub was busy, the menu was a bit limited and by 6.30 pm there was no pie of the day left, my husband chose chicken thighs wrapped in pancetta with an onion sauce, unfortunately he found it too salty, when he mentioned it to our waitress she said she didn't like it either!! the fish and chips I had were ok, usual stuff, our starter and dessert were nice. After a poor night's sleep we went into breakfast, ( breakfast didn't start till 9.00 am) we were shown to a table and offered the menu, we were not offered any fruit or orange juice, we ordered coffee and our breakfast order arrived, my scrambled egg was salty, my husband asked for eggs on toast, the eggs and toast came separate, he was then offered some butter, I asked for some brown toast, both the toasts were only done on one side, we also had to ask for some brown sauce and some jam for the toast, these were brought to us when requested but if should be offered really, there was small cartons of orange juice in our room and were were told there was yogurt and milk etc., in a small fridge at the bottom of the stairs from the bar to help ourselves but this was not really acceptable ( how people ate continental breakfast in the room was a mystery there was no room to sit and eat) sorry but overall it was a very disappointing stay, some upgrading is seriously required.

A very friendly welcome, family room was clean and tidy and nice & warm. Excellent pub food - definitely worth pre-booking a table as gets very busy. Breakfast was excellent too. Great service, lovely place from which to explore. Would happily stay again!

Realy nice location opposite the church. Food was good. Breakfast choice was excellent, but a 45 minute wait seemed a little lengthy!
