Dukes Bath

My wife and I have stayed at the Dukes Hotel three times before and booked again because it has always been a great experience at a hotel in a superb location which has been used for filming Bridgerton. How times change! This time our stay was incredibly disappointing - and we won’t be going back. There are major renovations going on at the hotel which we weren’t advised about on booking. Both the restaurant and the reception areas were closed. Finding a makeshift reception was a challenge as pieces of paper with arrows on doors and walls actually didn’t lead anywhere. The room we booked - a Cozy King - was actually a disable room (which we weren’t told about beforehand otherwise we wouldn’t have booked). The room was in need of a complete refurbishment. There were stains on the walls and carpet and the paintwork was dirty. There was mould around the shower and the shower head was horrible. There were no drawers or shelves only two small bedside cabinets, no mirror for my wife to do her hair, no shelving or table in the bathroom area to put cosmetic bags etc so these had to be left on the floor. . We were in between two fire doors which were not soft closing (even Premier Inns have those) with the result that our last night was disturbed by other guests letting the doors slam shut. When I handed in the key we weren’t even asked if we had enjoyed our stay! Should I have complained - yes, absolutely but we didn’t want our break to get off to a bad start and decided to put up with it as we were only there for 3 nights. We paid £585 plus £20 per night parking at a sister hotel. Bath is a fabulous place but the Dukes Hotel, despite its location, is shabby and there are much better places to stay.

Hervorzuheben ist die ruhige und fußläufige Lage um historischen Stadtkern. Das ganze Haus atmet georgianischen Stil und liegt in einem wunderbaren, architektonisch einheitlichen Viertel. Hohe und geräumige Zimmer. Wir hatten eine Suite mit Mini-Vorraum (ohne eine Garderobe oder Ablage), einen kleinen Salon mit Sofa und Möglichkeit zum Tee-/Kaffekochen, ein großes Schlafzimmer mit Himmelbett und spärlicher Möblierung (kleiner Wandschrank, hier zu wenig Stauraum, selbst für nur 3 Übernachtungen) und ein ausreichend großes Badezimmer mit Duschbad, aber ohne Bidet und ohne Mischbatterie am Waschtisch. Das Frühstücksbuffet war frisch und enthielt u.a. eine Auswahl an Brot und Gebäck, frische Croissants, eine kleine Auswahl an Obst und cereals. Wir vermißten jedoch sehr ein warmes englisches Frückstück. Die freundliche und bemühte Bedienung servierte guten Tee, frischen Orangensaft und frischen Toast, der Kaffee war jedoch ungenießbar. Ein Lift ist nicht vorhanden, das Gepäck wurde nach Ankunft aber bereitwillig aufs Zimmer, und am Abreisetag während des Frühstücks wieder herunter und bis zum Bus gebracht. Dennoch: Kein Sicherheitszugang zur Suite, sondern klassischer Schlüssel und Drehknopf. Kein Tresor auf dem Zimmer. Keine Kühlschrank/minibar). Keine Klimaanlage, nur Ventilator (dürfte in der warmen Jahreszeit nicht ausreichen). Die Elektrik ist altertümlich, die Stecker waren ausschließlich britisch (bis auf das Bad), v.a. keine USB-Stecker. Der von außen zu schaltende towel rail im Bad funktionierte nicht. Das Bad war sauber, die Fliesenfugen waren dunkel und dürften ruhig einmal gereinigt werden. Der Teppichboden hatte zahlreiche Flecken. Die Ausstattung des Hotels verdient somit höchstens 3 Sterne.

As a high maintenance kind if guy (needed a PET FREE room and needed laundry done overnight) I was impressed with how the whole team worked together to accommodate our needs. The room was clean and beautifully decorated! Great location too!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Duke’s Bath. Our room was very comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic. You can order whatever you like from the menu. Both Jenny and Jean Luc were especially helpful in making bakery suggestions and ordering a taxi. The location was on a quiet part of a Main Street and an easy walk to the busy town center. Highly recommend

Where do I begin, this hotel is amazing and cannot rate it highly enough. My wife booked two nights at this beautiful hotel for one of my Christmas presents so I could see the beautiful area of Bath. When we arrived we were welcomed with a kind smile and help with navigating to parking and explained too in detail how the front door lock work and breakfast arrangements. Once we had parked our vehicle at their sister hotel, only a couple of minutes walk down the road (this was £20 per night which was fine, considering we are from London and that's the normal price for a couple of hours) to be help to our room with our heavy luggage. We were upgraded complimentary to a superior king room. This was situated on the top floor (6 flights) but was not a problem for us but would suggest if you have mobility issue to inform the hotel before so you can have a lower level room. While at the hotel we were given a number to which we could WhatsApp any issues we may of had, and the room service of more water and accommodating dairy alternative milk was very fast and never had to wait for anything. The breakfast in the morning was amazing with lots of choices and also offered seconds if wanted. The pancakes with bacon are a must. When it came to checking out we were once again helped with our luggage down the stairs even while persisting we would do it, the staff were more than happy to help. Even after checking out at 12 complementary late check out (normal checkout is at 11) we were able to leave our car at the sister hotel until 3pm so we were able to explore Bath still without having to move the car. The hotel has a prime location to amazing places in Bath. We will be returning hopefully soon

We had a great stay here. The staff were friendly and helpful during every interaction. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good with a variety of options. The hotel is a couple of blocks from Pulteney bridge so you have immediate access to the Bath attractions with less than a five minute walk. Especially given the reasonable price, this is a great hotel for your visit to Bath. Nothing to complain about - one pointer is that if you have a car, you will have to park it at the sister hotel, The Bird, which is a short walk down the street. Also, if you want to have drinks after your travels, I highly recommend sitting in the garden area behind the breakfast room. It’s a peaceful and relaxing spot to unwind after a day on vacation.
