"We got a recommendation from a friend of us to visit Karpaha Sands ‚practically as a must see‘! Well, when we came there we immediately understood why 😅 We have been overwhelmed!!! I think, there is quite no better👍🏻 People is amazing, well told in any belongings. Namal takes care about us in such an agreeably way. Better than you could dream of and Sarath, our waiter was one of the absolute best of all our journey. The food simply outstanding. The Manager, Umberto from Bergamo, Italy (already self explanatory😜) is still standing in the kitchen himself, teaching and preparing delicious meals for his guests. The bungalows and the place, just everything is out of imagination. More than worth to go!"

"We have travelled extensively and seen so many beautiful places and hotels around the world, but the Kalkudah Beach House surpasses them all. A shining jewel set amidst a vast palm garden covered in lush grass, right on the endless, unspoilt sandy beach of Kalkudah. A beautiful manor house with an adjoining open-plan restaurant and a villa building that complements the estate, plus a magnificent, generously sized swimming pool. Our Master Suite on the upper floor of the manor house exceeds even the wildest expectations, and the panoramic view from the large, covered balcony out onto the vast sea takes your breath away. The very warm and welcoming hotel staff work with the utmost professionalism and attention to the guest, anticipating your every wish. It was a great honour for us to have been guests at this heavenly place, which we can recommend unreservedly and with enthusiasm."

The food was horrible, tasteless, and took an unreasonably long time to prepare and serve. Don’t be fooled by the photos they advertise—the reality is completely different. Even the rooms were not properly cleaned."

"This is my second time at East Lagoon and the quality of service has drastically reduced and the hotel isn't maintained well - it's in a run down condition. The rooms were unclean, the washrooms were smelly. There was a dead rat at the elevator entrance. The hotel seems to prioritise weddings/events over in-house guests. Food takes over 1.5 hours to serve, everything seemed so disorganized and chaotic. Overall had a terrible experience. Don't recommend this place to anyone - hoping to check out smaller but clean resorts in Batticaloa next time."

"Great Beach Access and Efficient Service at Maalu Maalu Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ We stayed at Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa on March 1st, 2026, following a trip from Colombo. It’s a solid choice for families looking for direct beach access and a cozy atmosphere. Check-in & Room Layout The welcome was pleasant, and the staff was professional. We were pleased to find our rooms ready the moment we arrived. We opted for a family room, which comfortably accommodated four people. The room featured a bathroom with a jacuzzi bathtub, which was a nice touch for relaxing after a long drive. Service & Room Service While the general staff was "okay-friendly," the room service was truly excellent. They were incredibly responsive and delivered everything we requested very quickly. It’s clear that the team is efficient and attentive to guest needs. Pool & Beach Access The pool area is a highlight, especially for families—the kids had a fantastic time. One of the best features of this property is the very close access to the beach, making it easy to hop between the ocean and the pool. Atmosphere & Dining The hotel has a "boutique" feel, though it is not very spacious. The layout feels a bit compact compared to other resorts in Pasikuda, likely due to the land area. If you prefer a sprawling resort, this might feel a bit tight, but it remains cozy. Food: The buffet was decent with a fair selection of dishes to choose from. It provided a good variety, even if it wasn't the largest spread we’ve seen. Overall Experience We had a nice stay at Maalu Maalu. It’s a well-managed hotel with high-speed service and a great location for beach lovers."

"Booked this as part of a tour of the island with this being a halfway break. Looking at the options for Pasikudah hotels the all looked good but it is rare to see a hotel maintain 5 stars over 2200 reviews like Uga so we had to opt for it. This place blew us away! From a lovely greeting from the lady manager which covered all the details, entry through the eye catching tunnel, and then on to the well sized rooms with a partial view of the bay. Everything worked in the room from the air conditioning and fan to the excellent shower. We were upgraded to half board via our tour company which meant we had a set menu to choose from each night. At other establishments this can be at best an average experience- not here! Every dish we had was top quality and well prepared and thought through. The breakfast buffet changed a series of its contents each of the 4 days we stayed but retained the basics. All the staff were exceptional, all polite and all eager to serve from the reception team through to the restaurant team, the beach bar team and all the back room staff who kept everything immaculate. The bay it backs on to was like a bath and virtually a mill pond - we were there mid May. This is quite expensive in terms of Sri Lankan hotels but fantastic value compared with some other hotels around the world we have been lucky enough to visit. Please go here if you can!"

"We had a wonderful short stay at Karpaha for my wife's 50th birthday and what a beautiful place to stay . Everything at resort is of very high standard from the rooms, food , facilities and service . Umberto is a very welcoming manager , who greets everyone and you see actively engaging with guests around the resort . Then on top of that we had a wonderful butler Malshan who sees to all your needs promptly and professionally, nothing is a problem . He sorted special surprise treats for my wife for our stay there including room decoration, birthday cake for her and our amazing BBQ on the beach . On top of this he provides expert information for things to do . Many thanks to Umberto,Malshan and rest of staff."

"Beautiful beach house with a breathtaking view in front. Place was quite spacious with serene architecture. Good service too. Bidet shower was leaking, otherwise the room was clean and the colors were my favorite. King coconut welcome drink was superb. I asked for another with breakfast. Teardrop always had the best coconut ice cream. And the beach house had a nice Crab Croquettes. Also they served a happy hour. One dish particularly too sour for me (Seafood Ceviche). Also they charged for a tea we ordered after dinner but not the coffee. Bit unclear about that. Wish they had more hearty Sri Lankan seafood dishes."

"Our stay at Giman Free Beach Resort, Pasikuda was extremely disappointing due to poor management and lack of basic hospitality standards. The prices are very high, but the food quality is terrible. The portion sizes are very small, and the food was not tasty at all. It is definitely not worth the money. The management is very poor. On the last night, a man fell from the upstairs, and shockingly, the staff did not attend properly to the situation. The manager was not aware of guests or staff issues and was very unresponsive. Both the staff and management failed to handle the situation responsibly. The rooms were not cleaned properly, the TV was not working, and basic maintenance was clearly ignored. The swimming pool was not maintained at all and was full of dust, making it unusable. Additionally, the road leading to the hotel is in very poor condition, which makes reaching the place difficult. Overall, this hotel is not worth the price, lacks professionalism, and does not care about guest safety or comfort. Not recommended at all."

" In Batticaloa, it appears that hotel choices are somewhat limited. I found that The East Lagoon Hotel to be adequate for a few days’ stay. While the room and washroom were clean, the balcony area was a mess. The view from the room was quite nice but the balcony was too narrow and the walls too high to sit and enjoy it. Regardless, sitting down on the balcony was out of the question. I could overlook the cheap plastic chairs, but the fact that they were dirty was disappointing. On a positive note, the staff, particularly the manager, were friendly and helpful. However, we often had to track down a server whenever we visited the bar. The breakfast served was a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast, though it lacked a Western option. I must mention that I was under the impression that the checkout time was 12 pm, as indicated on ***********, and I'm unsure why we had to rush out at 11 am. "
