Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge

We had an extraordinary time at Sleeping Giant for our honeymoon. The reason I'm not giving a 5/5 is that we were there as a same-sex couple on our honeymoon, and it felt like some of the staff treated us awkwardly. No one said anything inappropriate but there were some questioning looks, and a particularly uncomfortable experience when we booked a massage and the two masseuses arrived at our room and realized we were two women. Otherwise, the food was incredible (although watch out for the taxes & fees that aren't part of the menu prices!) and they were able to meet our dietary needs very well. The pool was luxurious, as was our room and bathroom. We did the horse-and-buggy ride and the night hike, and both exceeded our expectations. Bugs can be ferocious, bring spray!

This place is absolutely gorgeous. We stayed here after a 5-night snorkeling adventure on South Water Caye, and we could not have had a better experience. We stayed in one of the Creekside Cabins, and it was clean, beautiful, and comfortable. The grounds are lovely. The pool is surrounded by a splendid garden. We used the free bicycles and ventured out to experience the fun sites they have set up in their corner of this rainforest jungle, including a wonderful tree house, a viewing tower, and many rope bridges. We had a car, so we visited many of the local restaurants (consider street food and small stands) on the Hummingbird Highway and could take ourselves on day adventures, go hiking and visit the bounty of Mayan historical sites. Sleeping Giant has most of these adventures available to add on, so a car isn't necessary if you chose not to drive. The only very slight downside was the on-site restaurants. Like other resorts in Belize, we found the food to be a bit bland. The two restaurants at the Sleeping Giant: Grove House - we only had one meal here. It is a lovely restaurant and the service was excellent. The Pork Tail Tostadas were good. One dinner (Pollo de Cobanero Chile) was pretty good, and the other (Short ribs) was mostly bad. The beef was flavorful, but very greasy, and the sides - potatoes were glutenous and unsalted, and the greens were too salty to eat. We ate at Don Tonito's Pizzeria the next day.The two pizzas we had were okay. We ate 1 breakfast and 2 dinners at Humo at their new sister resort, The Banks (they will transport you the short trip down the road and back), which were very good- their breakfast was excellent. Just ask for a salt/pepper box for the bread with dinner, and you will be all set. The cocktails at both places and the pool were all great and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.

Our stay was AMAZING!! Beautiful property!! The BREAKFAST was sooo good!! We were away for lunch everyday, sadly! And dinner was Ok! I specifically book riverview #4 for the outside shower and tub. The ONLY recommendation I’d have is to find a way to cover the tub so we don’t have to clean it out before each use. I wasn’t even able to use it during my time there. But the shower was great!

Property was amazing and serene. Staff was great and attentive. Would definitely come back and stay longer!

Beautiful property in a surreal environment. The staff was wonderful, and the fiod was excellent! We gad a ruver view room, whichbwas amazing. Only down side was we could hear our neighbors through the walls. Other than that no issues. Marvin, a tour guide, was the best! So very nice and professional with a vast knowledge of the flora and fauna, history, etc.
