Stayed this past weekend and the staff was very friendly and helpful on where to go in the area. Breakfast was good and would stay again

Basics: Country inn and suites Benton harbor - nice enough on the surface for a 2 star hotel. Traveling w a cat and I can stay here. Front desk people nice enough at check in, but largely invisible at each stop back on day 1 - afternoon and evening. Checked in early, also a plus, as no problems doing so. Bathroom: 2 towels (about 2x4 ft) , 2 hand towels (also on small side, but existing), 2 wash cloths- or only 2 washcloths hanging up. As it turns out, there was a dirty wash cloth hanging up in the shower curtain, hanging over the shower rod, when I opened the curtain. Huh. That’s not usual. Two packets of 2x2 basic soap bars, tiny things of lotion that I can’t see ingredients for (‘belif’) , 1 small Colgate packet. Bottles of shampoo and something attached to wall in shower. Bathroom seems clean enough - no visible mold. But bathtub felt slimy when I stepped in to shower off. Not good. Room: fridge on the larger mini sized, large flat screen TV easily 2x size of the larger towels. (Shows you they care more about dulling customer senses then having clean dry customers.). Two table lamps, 1 floor lamp, exceedingly noisy (but effective) below window cleaning and heating unit. HVAC unit clean enough - no noticeable smell of mold, and I am mold sensitive. Table w 2 chairs, desk w office style chair, open closet area that has about 2 ft of usable space. Rest is filled w ironing board (full size), luggage rack. Bed has 4 large king pillows that are ok - not soft and luxurious (what I like), not hard as a board, not overfilled. Light quilt w cloth bedcover. … and ticks, which woke me up crawling on me in the middle of the night. Not sure where the ticks came from. I have only been walking on pavement and roadways and the parking lot. Cat gets carried to/from car and doesn't go outside. Carpet is visibly highly stained - visible large stains in many places. Don’t want to go barefoot. Visible water damage in corner of outer wall AND around wall socket! I think I stayed here b4, so standard but on the good for a solid inexpensive breakfast buffet. Egg beaters (on the dry side), biscuits and gravy, waffles / waffle iron... muffins, bagels, bread... nothing notably gluten free so not a safe gluten free breakfast beyond tea / coffee. Some colored liquid that is not labelled for type of ?juice? - lots of ice, so if it was juice it is highly watered down. And tea and coffee were out all day in breakfast area w cold iced water. Nice for eating in the evening. But hot water ran out and no one at desk to ask for more. So some good enough for cheap place, but seriously needs renovations and redos, carpet replacements, and better cleaning in the bathroom at least.

What ever was left of the old Holiday Inn Express has got up and left the building. This place was in terrible shape. First off your greeted in the lobby with a fan that runs constantly blowing into the breakfast area (not sure whats that all about). After taking an elevator which seams to be on its last leg, and making your way to any floor other than the 1st floor, you are greeted with a hot and humid hallway. Entering our room 317, we noticed the floor was uneven slopping in towards the beds with at least a 2 inch dip in the center. The room has seen better days, shower curtain rod sagging bed support on one of the beds broken and sagging 3 inches on one side, and stained carpet. This is something you might see in a subpar hotel but not one where I paid $156. The pool area was pretty disgusting as well, no ventilation and a strong musty smell throughout. Carpet in room had chunks of stuff all over. On the plus side, the beds where clean and the AC worked well and was not too loud and the staff were friendly, we did not eat breakfast here but there was sausage, eggs and potatoes to choose from. Only thing to do with property is tare it down or gut it and start a new. Very disappointing and will be very leary of the chain again in the future.

Looking at the price online, it was $99 when they came to book the room. It ended up going up to 175 for a king size suite with a hot tub.. now the hot tub didn’t even have hot water. Neither did the shower. The water was lukewarm at best. When I filled the hot tub up and turn the Jets on the water level wasn’t high enough in the jet was aimed outside the tub becoming a fire hose inside the bathroom.. when I approached the hotel staff asking if they could please put my clothes that got soaking wet from the misfiring hot tub. They told us against their policy to use the dryer for anybody’s personal belongings. All my clothes were in the bathroom at the time. So I spent a good two hours that night using the hairdryer to dry off my clothes. The continental breakfast was with stale bagels, uncooked, hashbrowns, and overcooked breakfast burritos . The pool the reason I booked a hotel was not heated. It was indoors only had two areas for seating no extra tiles available if you did get in the ice cold water. There is no hot tub on premises.

Check in was Normal however the light above the sink was out and the toilet was almost impossible to flush. We didn’t attempt to shower until morning. No hot water. Worst part upon checkout telling hostess she said o we know and maintenance is working on. I’m flabbergasted. Poor mgmt practice.

There were crumbs on the carpet around the bed. Carpet was quite worn & dirty. Breakfast options were not good - apparently a staff person was late coming in.
