Bodmin Jail Hotel

We were sentenced for one night at the Bodmin Jail. The wardens were very friendly and our cell was luxurious. After a good night sleep- no screaming We had a very delicious breakfast. I guess a more pleasant stay than as a real prisoner ever had

Absolutely amazing.. soo friendly. Relaxed environment. The hotel has been done to an amazing standard. Will definitely go again

We stayed in a family room with our two boys and they loved it. The room was huge. The boys loved exploring the hotel. Breakfast was so good and so many options. Staff were so friendly and welcoming.

A wonderful experience. We were really impressed. We had been around the museum 6 weeks earlier. This was to enjoy the experience of staying in an unusual hotel. We were not disappointed. A lot of interest in the layout and snippets of history. The room was quiet, very clean and comfortable. Don't expect to have a panoramic view on the world outside! The staff were all helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was superb. We also recommend having a beer or two in The Hole in the Wall pub, a 15 minute walk away.

The 2 nights’ stay was booked for my partner’s birthday – it was noted on booking, although only a brief ‘Happy birthday’ on check in was the only acknowledgment made to this. I thought perhaps something in the room or at dinner might have been nice. We stayed for 2 nights 23-24 Aug 2025 and had the Wardens Package which, although quite gimmicky, was well led by Kat/Cat who is a credit to the Hotel. The paranormal introduction was interesting. Entry to the experience / museum was also fantastic. The room we had was adequate and a decent size but I was intrigued as to why we had an ‘accessible room’, given neither one of us has mobility concerns. The low level toilet and sink and wet room was a surprise although we ‘made do’. The green ceiling lighting at night (assume as part of the accessible room set up) was so bright it made sleeping less easy. Chapel Restaurant – we were looking forward to the ‘fine dining’, unfortunately this was a real let down at dinner on our first night that we didn’t even return to eat here on the second night (despite having paid in advance as part of the overall package). We were seated and given a Warden’s menu. We ordered water for the table (this should have been free, not an additional £5). Some bread and butter followed. We attempted to place our order - the sole was not available and this was substituted for plaice (ok). I wanted a side order of tenderstem (broccoli) and this was not available either but I was offered honeyed carrots (this wasn’t even on the menu we were given!). I did not want carrots. There was a typo on the menu that referred to ‘beens and greens’. Surely this should have read ‘beans and greens’?! So I had plaice, this had a few pieces of cauliflower with it but that was it. We also had a chicken breast with masala sauce but there were no accompaniments eg rice or vegetables – anything had to be ordered in addition, separately at an additional cost. We had both ordered soup for starters, which duly arrived, without a spoon to eat it with (which we had to wait and ask for) – this should have been given to us previously or at least have been set at the table. There was also no salt and pepper on the table. We had dinner at 6.15pm, so early, and not much of a rush going on. We enjoyed the soup and then waited patiently for our mains. The mains came but they were not for us – 2 plaice, no sign of the chicken. The 2 plaice were for the table next to us. There were some discussions between servers at this stage and one came over to our table to personally apologise for having put it through incorrectly. It was a little wait longer for it to be re-done. The food was ok at best – almost as though the recipes were over complicated with elements that just didn’t go together. Eg I had poppadums on my fish – surely this would have been better with the chicken?
