Exploits Inn and Suites

Our 5/5 review is not because this is a luxurious destination but because it is a nice affordable small-town alternative to a hotel room. Botwood is a small town with several beautifully painted murals near the hostel and a large grocery store conveniently located across the street. We were in room #7 with our own washroom. The ceiling is low but the room was very clean and the furniture was in good condition. The air conditioning worked fine, the view over the water (part industrial and part scenic) was as good as some B&B's that advertise a water view and the staff were pleasant. It was nice to have a full size fridge in the kitchen and a large common room. A family with three teenage children having breakfast in the morning and two couples playing cards in the evening took advantage of the facilities you wouldn't have with a hotel stay. We recommend it.

This comfortable, spacious hostel is one of central Newfoundland's best kept secrets. It's managed by the staff of Donnini's Railway Cafe, which is downstairs. The ktichen and dining room are large. Rooms are medium-sized, but comfortable. Bed is wonderful; I slept like a log! Staff of Donnini's are very helpful, even in the midst of a meal rush.
