The Major Mitchell Motel

The Major Mitchell Motel is fantastic. The rooms are fantastic! They look to be newly renovated, and they offer pet friendly rooms. This is not the first time we have stayed, and we continually book ahead to ensure we dont miss out on staying there. Well done to the Team at Major Mitchell. I don't know how you do it, but the rooms do not have a 'doggy smell', and my little dogs settle very quickly. Thank you again, and I am positive we will see you again soon. Recommendation for people considering this accommodation is to BOOK AHEAD. You do not want to miss this place in Bourke.

After a long solo motorbike ride from Sydney, I stayed at the Major Mitchell Motel in Bourke and found it to be an ideal stopover. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable, providing exactly the kind of rest I needed after a full day on the road. Check-in was smooth, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. The location is also excellent — just a short walk from the Darling River and the local ANZAC memorial, which offers a peaceful place for reflection. A grocery store is nearby, which made it easy to get a few things during my stay. Overall, a well-maintained and restful place to stay. I’d definitely return if I’m passing through Bourke again.

The owner Dan was very pleasant to deal with, bed was comfortable, heaps of coffee, tea and milk available in the room. Couldn't complain about the service. Room was very clean, hair dryer provided plus iron and ironing board. Free WiFi as well.

Room was disgusting. Arrived looking forward to a shower until we saw the condition of the shower area. Tiles had previously been dislodged so some panelling had been put onto the walls and that also was now dislodged and sitting away from the wall. The shower floor tiles were gone, and some black rubber matting was put on the floor with dirty mould build up around it. Needless to say, we did not use the shower. The floor panelling is lifting and held together with black tape, and you can hear the water squishing under it when you walk on it. The toilet was not fixed to the floor and just wobbled around. Exhaust fan did not work. Air Conditioner did not work. One room light switch did not work as it was pushed into surround. Best I can say is that it was a bed and better than sleeping in the car.

Do not stay. Tiles falling off shower wall. Black rubber mats covering broken and missing tiles on shower floor. Curtains dirty. Carpet not the best. Beds were comfy though. $170 a night was way too expensive. Young indigenous riding around units at 3am on skateboards. Lock everything up

Although this motel is in an ideal location for those passing through it is in need of some upkeep. We were provided with what was according to the staff a renovated room, however the renovations were superficial with part of the ceiling badly cracked and the cornice falling down in parts. Also the grounds are fairly unkept. On the bright side the room was clean, the bed comfortable and they supplied the minimum tea and coffee making facilities. For the price we paid in comparison to other better motels on our trip, it was not value for money.
