Saunton Sands Hotel Source Spa and Wellness

Beautiful setting, stunning beach views! Had a third floor, beach-facing, pool-view room with a balcony. Stunning setting on top of the cliff! The prices at Beachside Grill and in the hotel were quite high but this was to be expected given the location. Nice pool area and beautiful lawn terraces, very refreshing after a long day of hiking the coast path! Friendly, helpful, professional staff. Breakfast was fine. Only minor niggle was the bathroom. Overcomplicated shower so difficult to find the correct temperature and pressure! Only had one night stay, would love to have stayed longer to make full use of the spa and wellness facilities and the beach.

A hotel with Spectacular views of Saunton Sands on the sea front side. The Reception and Concierge staff were friendly and helpful and could not be faulted. The staff looking after the rooms were pleasant and the standard of accommodation was of a good standard although we did have a couple of issues which were dealt with. Dining in the Hotel is another matter. On our first visit for an evening meal we asked for a table overlooking the sea many of which were unoccupied and were told that they were giving priority to the deluxe rooms and above and were shown to a table with a partial sea view. We were subjected to this treatment at every breakfast meal and have to say that we have never experienced this treatment in any hotel and we were made to feel like second class citizens. I did report this to Reception on day two of our stay and asked that the Manager be advised. The Manager did not come back to us during our 4 night stay or indeed since our return home some 10 days ago. So much for customer relations! Given the situation in the Hotel Restaurant we decided to eat our subsequent evening meals at the Beachside Restaurant which we understand is owned by a sister Company. Meals and service there were excellent with the staff being friendly and attentive at all times. The menu appeared to be more varied than in the Hotel and the quality was high. Prices were similar to the main Hotel. The staff in the Hotel restaurant, with a few exceptions, could learn a lot about service from the way this restaurant is managed. All in all we enjoyed our stay despite the Hotel restaurant issues.
