We had a wonderful stay to celebrate my 70th birthday. The staff could not have been more delightful. In particular I’d like to mention Hayley who went out of her way to make sure we had a wonderful meal and a great guest experience. We were lucky that the Head Chef was on duty to that night and the food was exceptional. The room was very well appointed and spotlessly clean. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Hotel.

We had a marvellous stay at Balmer Lawn. The staff are wonderful and the spa facilities are glorious, not forgetting the outdoor pool also. The restaurants and bars are both wonderful and we can’t wait to go back again soon. Theresa and Charlie x

On arrival allocated Room 4 which was so dark and cell like, the lower half of sash windows being covered to block view of the roof, that we immediately requested to be moved. Receptionist was very pleasant and eventually managed to find an acceptable Room 44 on the 3rd floor overlooking the forest. Had a treatment in the Spa with Emmie, who was a little shy, however the hot stone massage was very relaxing and enjoyable. I was delighted to receive the first of 3(!) plates of delicious chocolates, congratulating me on my "special" birthday! We had lunch in the bar area: sourdough is not to our liking so the sandwich we found challenging though tasty. Louise was extremely pleasant and helpful and immediately removed the 12.5% service charge when requested. This charge we find extortionate, particularly as the prices are high in the first place, and applies across the whole dining experience. Beresford's Restaurant is pleasant and the food beautifully presented though of modest proportions. Again we declined to pay the 12.5% Service Charge. The hotel is in an envied location although rather dated in décor we found, being dark colours in the main. We did not use the pool, however did take a look in and, again, found it rather dim, however as "vintage" folk, that may just be our declining sight! The fire alarm at 2.30am was an unpleasant surprise, however the staff were excellent, coping extremely well with the guests and accounting for everyone' safety. The tea and coffee was very welcome so congratulations, as the whole "exercise", aka false alarm, was accomplished very efficiently. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The food is good and beautifully presented. The room we had was clean and well equipped. The staff are very pleasant and well trained. Would we return? Perhaps not.
