The Inn on Pamlico Sound

We went over Labor Day weekend 2025. To start we knew we would be arrive late on Friday and the Inn didn’t hesitate to give us everything we needed for a late check in. The room was clean, staff were friendly and welcoming. The grounds are beautiful! We loved the convenience of having everything on site (restaurant, water activities, pool). We look forward to visiting again!

Felt like royalty in the king Magnolia room! Easy and excellent check in process. Room was beautiful and bed was exceptionally comfortable! Relaxing experience from first moment to the last. Loved the complimentary breakfast the next morning and convenient coffee station. Wished we were there longer than one night. Oh and the view was spectacular! Best lodging experience of our trip!

This is one of the busiest times in the Outer Banks, and there are almost no restaurants that take reservations. Your only choice is to go and wait, often for as long as an hour or two hours. The Inn has a lovely restaurant, great staff, and wonderful food. The rooms and dining were fully booked, but the owner took pity on us and squeezed is in at the bar. It was not convenient for anyone working there, but it made our evening. We had unexpected guests and needed a nice dinner no other place could provide. Steve Nelson saved our birthday celebration from being peanut butter sandwiches to delicious lamb, scallops linguini and Gouda Mac and cheese with shrimp. And there was a lovely girl who sang and played guitar for entertainment! Thank you, Inn at Pamlico!

Stayed a few days but would have liked a longer stay. This Inn is just wonderful. We had a corner room with covered balcony. Perfect in hot weather and rainy. So relaxing. The decor was lovely down to the fresh flowers in the seating area as you entered our building. We did not use the pool or other amenities as we went out sight seeing daily. Perhaps next time. Convenient to have the restaurant right there (see separate review). Quiet, comfortable- perfect for relaxing and sleeping. Very clean! Sightseeing from here - easy and the beaches. Lovely grounds as well. Would highly recommend.

We celebrated our daughter’s wedding at The Inn on Pamlico Sound on May 17th.  The experience was nothing short of exceptional. Everything ran seamlessly; weather was beautiful, food and drinks outstanding, and staff went above and beyond. A huge thank-you to Meredith, who was truly the heart of it all. She was responsive, organized, and supportive throughout planning process into the entire weekend. She made everything feel easy and enjoyable; we were SO grateful to have her guiding the event. Our daughter, son-in-law, and their bridal party had an unforgettable time.  Our guests couldn’t stop raving about the service, setting, and overall experience. The attention to detail made a lasting impression. We’re so thankful to The Inn on Pamlico Sound for creating such a meaningful and joyful celebration and are already looking forward to returning for future visits.  It is a place we’ll always cherish.

We stayed here for a wedding, and while many of the reviews were positive, my experience was a bit different. The positives: The service from the hotel staff was excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The food from the restaurant was delicious. The pool, though small, was clean and well maintained. Our room and the common areas were also clean, and the king bed was comfortable. If you're looking to stay on the sound, the location does offer that. However, there were some drawbacks that would keep me from returning: The "beach" is misleading. There is only a tiny patch of sand, and the rest is marsh. Rooms are very small, and you share a fridge and microwave with others in your building. The walls are thin. You can easily hear other guests coming and going and other noises. Our “sound view” room mostly overlooked the restaurant roof and parking lot. There was very little privacy on the balcony as guests checked in. The ceiling in our room was peeling, and the pull-out couch bed had a very thin, uncomfortable mattress. A housekeeping gratuity was automatically charged to our card, even though we also left a cash tip (not a big issue, but it wasn’t communicated clearly). There’s an extra $10 per child, per night fee, regardless of age. Some common areas, like the theater and reception space, had moldy vents and a strong mildew smell. Overall, we paid just under $1,000 for a 3 night stay in a “sound view” room, which felt overpriced given the space, amenities, lack of beach access and lack of “Soundfront & Soundview”. I didn’t compare prices with other nearby places, but as a frequent beach traveler, I’ve stayed oceanfront for cheaper and more spacious, better equipped rooms. If you're traveling solo or as a couple, this place might suit you. But for families, especially with kids, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. It just didn’t feel very family friendly.
