Gavimar Cala Gran Hotel and Apartments

I currently just returned from a four day stay for my friends 50th birthday. The hotel was at a great location very clean and the rooms were serviced every day. It had good pool areas however on our four day trip staff were very moody apart from one that made our day she was brilliant and for all inclusive with the other bar staff they were not putting right measures as they were mainly fruit juice our drinks as we’ve already paid all inclusive and we wasn’t drinking a lot. The reception staff are great. It was mainly the bar staff.

Is this the worst hotel? No. But did I rate it for the £2600 we paid for 7 nights? Also no. Room - paid an upgrade for a 1 bed apartment and the room was so dated. Balcony doors didn’t shut tight and 2 days in the handle fell off and they replace it with an interior door handle so you had to bolt it for it to close. Air con didn’t work properly, reported it, nothing was done. Arrived at about 11pm and we couldn’t sleep because of a weird clunking noise every 30 seconds, reported it to reception, nothing they could do apparently. Great service. Had to wear ear plugs to sleep. ‘Kitchen’ in the room, I wouldn’t use to prepare a dogs food, microwave was rusty. Bathroom was shabby, mirror was eroding and felt unsafe. Base of the bath wasn’t flat so felt like you would fall, shower head didn’t work properly, which we reported, nothing was done. They charged €4 a day to use the safe, plus a €10 deposit. Most hotels give the safe for free. Pool loungers are locked up until 10am when the pool opens, helps with the bed hoggers but can also means waiting around until the lifeguards have removed all the locks. Pools are small, in need of upgrade and ruled with an iron fist. No floaties or balls yet teenagers can have bombing competitions scaring little kids out of the pool. Food - worst AI food we have had, very little choice and very repetitive. Even breakfast was bad, kids were bored by day 3. We ate out twice at considerable extra cost. Entertainment- amateurish compared to all other Spanish hotels we have stayed at, really annoying compères shouting down poor quality PA system, deafening everyone as far as the indoor lounge. Evening acts were a bit cringe. 2 pool tables which people were allowed to hog and arcade games that swallowed the kids money. Drinks were pretty pants too. Only bonus was a good location but not much else I would recommend
