Melia Cala d'Or

This is a really lovely boutique hotel. The hotel grounds are laid out to lawns and the pool has beds either side with the possibility of pulling shade covers over them. The rooms are clean and comfortable with excellent air conditioning and nice bathrooms. There are all the amenities one would expect from a 5 star hotel. Breakfast was the usual buffet style with eggs & pancakes made to order by the chefs. The restaurant staff were friendly and helpful and very quickly knew our room numbers! The reception was outstanding, the two main receptionists, Stephan & Stephanie, were amazing. Not only did they sort out taxis etc for us they also recommended restaurants all of which were good and two quite exceptional. It was my wife’s birthday whilst we were away and they noticed her opening her cards at breakfast and then just before lunch one of the waitresses, Isabel, appeared with champagne and birthday cake, without any prompting from us. We can’t wait to return.

We - two couples & one small baby - really enjoyed our stay. The hotel, staff, food, ambience and grounds were fabulous. We had a standard room which was clean and had everything you need including safe, towels which were changed every day and water. Breakfast was amazing. Surfaces were cleaned regularly and the food and drink was plentiful. Cava for breakfast? Yes please! The chef cooked hot food to order and the pastries and bread were delicious. No problem getting a sunbed, plenty for everyone, by the pool and in the surrounding gardens. There are lots of beautiful mature trees in the grounds which were very well maintained. The reception staff, restaurant staff and bar staff were lovely & very friendly. I highly recommend the Rossini at the pool bar! The hotel is in a quiet street but is near to all amenities and Cala Gran beach is minutes away. I would recommend the marina area for meals and people watching. Fontanella restaurant is very good and only two minutes walk from the back gate of the hotel. There is also a fab gelato shop nearby, think between us we tried all the flavours! All in all, a fabulous week away at a lovely hotel!

We were somewhat aware that the hotel might not fully live up to its 5-star rating, but upon arrival, it became clear that it was at best a 4-star, more like 3+. When you’ve paid for a luxury experience, that’s just not acceptable. The rooms were worn down, the bathrooms didn’t feel clean – mostly due to old grime that couldn’t be removed. The furniture was in poor condition, some pieces literally falling apart. Our "junior suite" was like a dark cave, nothing like what you'd expect from that room category. When we asked to switch rooms, we were actually downgraded – they refused to offer a complimentary upgrade, even though our original room was clearly not up to standard. That felt both stingy and unprofessional. Unfortunately, the new room also had its share of issues. It wasn’t fully clean, and there were ants in the room – not exactly what you hope for in a supposedly luxury hotel. The only thing that actually lived up to expectations was the pool area and the indoor pool – both were nice and well maintained. Sadly, that’s not enough when everything else is falling short. The food was mediocre, and the service was dreadful. Everything took far too long, and several staff members seemed lazy and uninterested. In summary – the hotel did not live up to what we paid for, and we won’t be returning. Not recommended if you're looking for a genuine 5-star experience.
