The Vagabond's House Boutique Inn

My husband and I stayed in room 1 for three nights from June 1st-4. We loved the location and the room. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was great. Having two sink/vanity areas was perfect for us. We enjoyed this room because it was on the main level but there is no room directly above which was nice. Especially since it’s an older property and the floors can be kind of creaky. We didn’t have to listen to anyone walking about overhead. The room itself was clean and very nicely renovated. And, the provided daily breakfast was a real treat. Was delivered promptly each morning at our selected time. Always hot and fresh. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

Homey and cozy. Plenty of room to sit by the fireplace after walking around the neighborhood. Nice table for breakfast. Roomy kitchen (a surprise but not sure all units have one). Quiet location but still close to all the dining/shopping/beach. Loved the daily breakfast in room.

This is a nice and centrally located place, though not quite a full-service bed and breakfast. The bed and pillows are very comfortable, and the bathroom is updated with modern amenities, including wonderful heated floors. However, the carpet looks quite old, but the cozy fireplace in the room adds a lot of charm. For the price and location, this is still a good option. It’s located just north of Carmel’s main ***** and only a short walk from the beach, making it a convenient spot. Breakfast consists of basic grocery store items, but the presentation, along with the various sides served in your room, makes it enjoyable. The only cooked item are the hard boiled eggs. Room service is the only option for breakfast, though it would have been nice to have 2 chairs in our room so we could both enjoy the food together. The front desk staff is friendly, but the level of service isn’t what you’d expect. Upon arrival, we were told our room was ready, but there had been a mix-up with housekeeping, and we were taken to a room that hadn’t been cleaned. Later, when I mentioned there was no parking available in their private lot, the staff member didn’t seem to care and suggested parking on the street, adding that it was unlikely we’d get a ticket. Another minor issue was with the breakfast request process. On the second day, when I asked for the order form slip, they said they’d just send the same meal as the day before, which didn't work for us since we didn't want the same items. The fruit served both at breakfast and during the wine and cheese hour was not very fresh, though the wine served during the 4-6 p.m. wine and cheese hour was excellent. Overall, I’m used to bed and breakfasts with freshly baked goods, amazing food, and great coffee, so perhaps that’s why I was slightly underwhelmed. However, this place still has a lot of charm, especially with its convenient location and cozy atmosphere.

Don’t be fooled by the name. This boutique vintage inn offers all the modern luxuries. Beautifully appointed rooms with all the bells and whistles (except AC, but it wasn’t a problem). Delicious breakfast (made to order) delivered every morning, lovely courtyard for winding down in the evening, great service from the staff. Walking distance to great shops, restaurants and Carmel beach. A real gem!

Fantastic place to stay in Carmel-by-the-Sea! Walking distance to the beach, restaurants and shops. The complimentary breakfast which is delivered to your room was a perfect way to start each day. The complimentary wine/cheese hour in the evening was delicious. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit which was a great gathering spot as we stayed with 2 other couples. Staff was attentive and helpful. The rooms had all the amenities we needed. The bed could have been a little more comfortable and pillows were a bit firm for our liking but that didn’t impact our sleep too much. Overall perfect place to stay. Can’t wait to come back!

It's such a gem. So much comfort, so quiet and the management is so attentive. Definitely a good place to stay with your pet. Far enough from the uproar of Ocean Ave, and at the same time so close to everything you want. The remodeling of the rooms is gorgeous, and give you such a sense of cosiness that you would be even tempted not to leave your room. (we were in room 3) Don't hesitate, go for it, but shush, don't tell anyone so it can remain the little unknown and untouched gem we like so much!
