Colibri Lodge

Hôtel très agréable et chambre parfaite avec belle vue, lit immense (très agréable après les randos). De plus le propriétaire est très sympa, arrangeant et nourriture succulente ! On ne peux que vous recommander de continuer votre chemin après Sangalle pour dormir au Colibri où nous avons passé une très bonne soirée !

Un petit paradis lors du trek ! Une arrivée super chaleureuse et accueillante ! Aux petits soins pour nous faire plaisir. Dans un environnement éblouissant. La cuisine super bonne. La chambre est vraiment propre et très bien aménagée, avec la grande baie vitrée donnant sur la montagne qui finit de nous combler ! Merci encore au propriétaire !

Outstanding I cannot rate this place high enough. An absolute jewel in the middle of this magnificent place. I am already planning my return!

Credit where credit is due: the room was well appointed, clean and the WiFi was excellent. The lodge and restaurant area are set on the hillside and have a beautiful view of the Andean night sky. Unfortunately, the overall experience left some to be desired. I arrived in the afternoon, the place is poorly marked and I had to ask around to get directions. Upon arrival, a child lay on the floor screaming and a slightly older child checked me into my room. The owner was nowhere to be found and there was a confusion about the price and room I had reserved. I found there to be no hot water in the rooms and ended up slipping and falling in the shower. Luckily i missed my head but bruised my bicep on the stone edge. Ouch. Dinner was satisfactory but underwhelming and expensive. The same child cried and screamed most of dinner. Many lodges on the Colca valley have social areas but unfortunately Colibri did not. I’ve heard Gloria’s is cheaper and provides a 3 course dinner. Will check that out if I return to SJC.

We stayed at Colibri for one night as part of our 3-day hike in Colca Canyon. It was fantastic!! The host was the sweetest man, the breakfast and the dinner were both amazing and the beer was cold when we arrived and REALLY needed one! Our room had a balcony and we sat out with our beer and stared that the incredible canyon. Can't beat that!! Many people take a break in San Juan de Chuccho but then continue on to Sangalle to sleep. I urge you to take an extra day and enjoy the canyon even more by staying at night at Colibri. It made it more of an experience vs a race. We met some people who were on their way to Sangalle and they said "you are so lucky that you don't have to keep hiking". We knew we were lucky!! Colca Canyon was the highlight of our trip, WAY above Machu Picchu and all the tourists and almost Disney World feel to it. I'd say this is the best place to stay in the Colca Canyon, and also among the best to stay in the country! Located in a very remote area, the bedrooms are furnished really tastefully amd to a very high standard. At Colibrí Lodge, we not only had the most comfortable bed of our whole stay in Peru (which included other 5 locations), but we're also treated to a very thick feather down duvet and a menu of pillows including natural fillings and memory foam! You rarely get more than one pillow per person in Peru, in our experience, and here we had 5 for 2 people plus 2 cushions! The owner, Rivelino, is a wonderful host! He was incredibly attentive and kind. We were sorry not to stay longer! We arrived around 5pm and had to leave at 4.30am the next morning so we're unable to try the breakfast, but had a fantastic dinner, all freshly cooked and delicious! The main point to improve on is the hot water. The shower had great water pressure but not for hot water. An improvement on this would be amazing but I would still come back to this place. So if you visit the Colca Canyon, please make sure to stay here at least 2 nights. I'm sure Rivelino can put you in touch with local guides to advise on the best local walks.
