Quinta Vale da Roca

The hotel is situated in a secluded area with a wonderful view. We came as part of a hiking tour, so we didn’t stop to try any of the wines. The area is pretty remote, so if you’re looking to get away from it all, it’s a good spot for that. Their WiFi did not reach our room and the cell signal was extremely weak, so you really are quite cut off. The staff is very friendly, but only speaks Portuguese - though they generally communicate with you via text message so translating is easier. We were disappointed that their details has laundry service listed as an amenity - but when we asked to have some laundry washed they said their person who did that was not there that week

Peaceful place with little to no service Very lovely and peaceful property with great views. Breakfast was nice. Bit hard to get anything you needed. Staff dont apeak a lot of English, and if you ask for something using Google translate to help you (our TV didnt work the entire time we stayed) its impossible to get that sorted as they don't seem to want to. Danny (the manager) is available by text or whatsapp but he did seem to respond better to things we wanted to buy (like wine tours and massages) than fixing TVs! The rooms are nicely furnished by in need of some love - there were patches of damp on the walls in our which had bee badly painted over so they still looked bad. We did overall have a nice stay though. I wouldnt not recommend it, but dont expect a full service offering when you get there.

A small but lovely house in a stunning setting overlooking vineyards to the sea below. The small staff looked after us very well and also provided an excellent breakfast. If a light supper had been on offer we would have preferred to eat in. However some local eateries were a short distance away. Lots to see and do in this area.

We booked this place for a slice of the peace and quiet life and we weren't disappointed. We had the Pinot Noir room, and the views from the room were just stunning. It was close to the pool but not so close that any noise was annoying. The room was nicely furnished and it was silent at night. The little terrace was great for enjoying a drink. Breakfast was lovely each day - mostly pastries, cheese, ham, cereals and bread, but also some amazing eggs! The pool is nice with a great view and it's a nice touch to have the inside room with the hot tub for when the clouds come down. My wife booked a massage and we also went on a tour of the wine estate with the winemaker which was booked via phone. Both were nice experiences, you just need to be organised a few days in advance. It wasn't hard to find, if you do a bit of research with Google before setting off, and the handful of restaurants in the village make it walkable to other things. HOWEVER, my wife did find the gravel tracks between the village and Quinta to be a little dark and dingy. It seems unfair to give this place a 4* review, but there is room for improvement. The staff who run and operate it are nice, and know what they are doing, but are not able to sort any problems, you have to scan a QR code on the desk in the communal area to speak to someone. Do not expect any "service" here - it's not a B&B with a host. The information provided in the room was scant and didn't cover the basics, let alone other useful information. Plus there are maintenance issues; the TV didn't work in our room the whole time, despite us reporting this twice, there were also damp patches on the walls which had been painted over (badly). Things are starting to be in need of repair. But ultimately these things did not spoil the peace and tranquility and we had a great time.

The location of this hotel is amazing, with fantastic views out to sea. Unfortunately it was spoiled for us by the mosquitoes that ate us alive for the two nights we were there. It's probably a combination of the time of year and the wet weather, but it was a real problem: after the first night we both had more than 20 bites each on our faces, and more on our hands and arms. We mentioned it to the person serving breakfast in the morning (I think the owners were away) but she was just dismissive, no offer of help (even a citronella candle would have been something). The breakfast itself was excellent, however.

What can we say! It’s an absolutely beautiful and peaceful place to stay and exhale. The staff and owner are the nicest and most genuine people. Breakfast was delicious and the rooms are impeccable! We will be back !! Thank you !!
