Our first day at PrideInn Diani was a rip off!! I had called on Monday 26th to enquire about a room for Thursday 29th to June 1st. I was assured there was room and proceeded to pay the deposit. However on arriving at the hotel on 28th, the front office desk seemed puzzled by our arrival. It later turned out that the hotel was fully booked for a conference despite assurances when I had called on Monday that there was room. We were given a room that evidently is hardly ever used (Room 110) – the room access key did not work from the time it was given to us. To get into our room we had to keep going to the reception where the staff would feign shock that the key wasn’t working. They would accompany us to open the door with a master key! This went on all day on Thursday 29th – we weren’t free to access our room unless accompanied. On top of that the bathroom fan was not working so after showering the room would be full of humidity. We asked for the fan to be checked, a staff came to feign to check it then said he would check it the next day, never to be. It was difficult to get hot water from the shower so we bathed with tepid water. The main room was bare, no bed side table – a staff member claimed that none of the rooms had bedside tables, which was a lie. The AC smelled mouldy when turned on so we preferred to keep it off for health reasons so the night was terribly uncomfortable due to the heat, a hard bed and hard pillows. The TV didn’t work…it said ‘no internet connection’ or something like that. There was no safe in the room. No aesthetics like a wall painting. In short, a bland, poorly maintained room! Rooms became available as conference participants that were lodged there checked out on our second day there, so they changed our room to a room that was so different from what we had stayed in, in the first day. We were like “this is now what we had paid for when we chose PrideInn Diani”. Everything worked in the new room – the room access key, the fan in the toilet, the shower worked and we got hot water, the sink tap had good water pressure unlike in the previous room, there was a safe…in fact 2 safes, a wall painting gave the room character unlike the drab of room 110, and….wait for it….there were bedside tables contrary to what a staff member had claimed that no room had a bedside table!!! The bed and pillows were soft and finally we enjoyed a good night sleep. Given this evident rip off on the first day in light of the vastly different new room, I spoke to a receptionist and explained our travails in room 110 and asked they consider to give a discount for the first day. She said she would speak to the general manager but she never got back to me. When I went to ask her for feedback she had gone off duty so we never saw her again before we left. The saving grace after a disappointing first day was the good room we got on our day 2 and 3. The staff was friendly. The internet connection was great! The food was tasty.
