Battlefields Country Lodge

I stayed here recently for 1 night. The rooms in 'silos' are a design disaster - a gap under the door means water can get in, the bathroom door doesn't open fully because it's blocked by the sink, there's no mirror in bathroom, the room door is frosted glass (not solid) so the room is lit all night by the light outside the door. Dinner is served like school dinner, with limited choice and not very good quality. Breakfast options are limited. Stay somewhere else!

We arrived as part of a tour group for 2 nights. There was no water and although we were told pumps were being repaired, water did not come back on for almost 36 hours. Staff did little to help, such as provide bottled water. Totally unacceptable. May be an isolated incident but miserable bar staff and average food did little to help the frustration. Finally, on the morning of departure the water was back on. Sadly, a complete lack of confidence in the hotel meant I could not recommend.

Sockets were downright dangerous in room, Smoke detector was just laid on a worktop; cracked tiles and mould in bathroom. Bar shut at 9pm! Lot of noise at night and first thing, even had to intervene with some drivers having a loud argument. If you like decent filtered coffee at breakfat you're in for a disappointment with only instant. "Fruitjuice" was weak squash. Breakfast was ok and surprisingly bacon was very nice!

The first room we were given was pretty awful. Felt cold, damp and resembled a scout camp dorm. I complained and we were moved to a round house room. This was much better, recently renovated, lovely, comfy, clean bed, nicely appointed bathroom. However, the floor was extremely slippy in the bathroom, water went all over the floor from the walk in shower. The shower was very lack luster. There was nowhere to put anything in the bathroom, so wash bags etc had to go on the floor. Severe lack of towel rails too. Every time you used any toilet roll, the roll fell on the floor; (we think the holder was put on upside down!). The room had no view, only one window, outside was just concrete and other round houses. Our evening buffet meal was pretty awful. Our breakfast even worse. Some money has obviously been spent on the place, but the renovations have not been executed that well. 2 guests in a renovated room had no hot water or heating and there was no-one on site to fix it for them overnight. The chairs in the restaurant were enormous, hard to manoeuvre and being cream, won't stay looking clean for long. Not our favourite place on our tour I'm afraid.

My wife stayed here for a few days, staff were very helpful and the rooms were nice and large and comfortable but unfortunately the Wi-Fi was terrible. Almost non-existent. Which created some difficulties. The food in the restaurant was just about okay and as we are vegetarians we had a limited choice

This lodge was part of a tour so not selected by ourselves. Had already read online about the negatives. It was much better than expected. Lovely grounds. Housekeeping needed seen too. The shower was badly in need of a good clean and grouted. Food was ok, just needed warm plates for the hot stuff. Drink was cheap. Wonder if they had issues with staffing as it was a bit out of the way. Did not deter from the trip
