We stayed overnight at the Cod Cove Inn, a charming hotel located 1.5 miles from Wiscasset. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful fall foliage and flowers landscape the entrance. The check-in and check-out process was seamless, and the room was clean with a comfortable bed. The hotel features a patio, though a management notice advised against opening the sliding doors to prevent bugs from entering. The room also included a microwave and refrigerator. Breakfast, which starts at 7:30 a.m., offered a limited selection with no hot items—the eggs and biscuits were cold, though there was a pastry and waffle station. There is a nice overlook from the breakfast area with picnic tables. The location is easy to find, and the inn is pet-friendly. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, but the breakfast could be improved.

*** 3.75 Stars *** Spent 3 nights as part of a Maine photo trip. A bit pricey, but the rooms were exceptionally clean. Check-in is a bit odd as you walk name nobody to be found...you have to call a 404 area code number and same one comes out....;) We were in 2nd floor, it was quiet. Little road noise as it's set back. HVAC unit was slightly loud, and when put in AC had a bad smell... Breakfast was basic, as in cereal, breads, bagels, muffins, waffles (no hot items like eggs, etc). It's minutes to Wicasset, where there are two AMAZING lobster joints across from each other.

The room was filthy. My feet were black from walking on the dirty floor and had to wash them before getting into bed ended up buying a pair of flip-flops for the rest of my stay. When looking underneath the bed it appeared that had not been cleaned for weeks. There was no soap in the body soap container in the shower. A lightbulb was burnt out over the sink and there was a horrible mildew order in the bathroom.

Good and not so good stuff;but it served its purpose. The good is the accommodating staff who honored my request for a first floor room and the staff's assistance (when they were there - more later). The rooms were clean (you need to request maid service) and the grounds were well kept and spotless. they even had a nice garden on the side by the pool. We did not use the pool as it was too cold. The rooms were clean though a bit dated. There was a sleeper/couch that looked like it was left over from the 60's which was missing a backrest as evidenced by being unable to sit all the way back and we kept leaning backwards. Despite a good sleep the mattress was soft and lumpy (we prefer a firm mattress). The room had a little porch to sit outside and a nice view. The prices were reasonable considering what the costs are in the Harbor. The breakfast was bare bones and not a great selection. I suggest you buy something and bring it back to your room or eat at a local cafe in the Harbor or Wiscasset. Also, there was an odd sign asking you to only have your breakfast in the breakfast room and not take anything back to your room. Weird! The coffee was good and hot (New England brew, I believe). In the room there was adequate lighting and charging ports. The floors were clean and plenty of space for luggage (we had a king room). The TV was Direct TV and gave many channels. The shower/bath was old surround/fiberglass (with tub) and could use a sprucing up as it is yellowing. The shower was small (and we are not big people). It was evident the towel rack had fallen off or was removed as there were four screw holes over the toilet and they didn't drywall over them or paint- how hard is it to go buy a ten dollar picture or mirror and place it over the holes till it was repaired! We arrived late due to flights and stopping for dinner (we knew there would be nothing open by the time we got to the area. On the way we received a text from the Inn indicating the procedure to follow if we arrived after 8PM. Huh! It was easy to follow with keys, check in, etc but this is something new to us. There is no on-site staff after 8PM so you are on your own unless something drastic happens and you have to call their contact number. Why is this - unable to get staff or they see no need to staff-I don't know. I do know that some of the BnB's in town are like this with no late night staff but this is part of the BW Signature collection and I am surprised corporate allows this or are just lending their name to the Inn. Overall, it was adequate and very average. Most important to us is that it was clean, but don't expect it to be anything more than serviceable.

The room was very clean and comfortable, with a mini-fridge and microwave. The bed and sofa were comfortable. The bathroom had a grab bar and rubber mat. The staff were courteous and efficient. The outdoor pool is at an adequate temperature, and there is a lovely garden with a gazebo. Breakfast was fine, but hard boiled eggs were the only protein source except for sausage gravy – but there were no sausages. There were biscuits, instant oatmeal packets, apples. The strange thing about this place is that it is called a BW Signature, which is usually a cut above an average Best Western. However, the room had no telephone, and no “do not disturb” sign for the door handle. An employee told me there were none in the hotel. One would expect the above-mentioned breakfast items in a basic BW, but would expect better at a Signature. I suggest BW remove the “Signature” from the label.

We have been staying at the Cod Cove for many years about twice a year. Back in the day there were delicious homemade muffins every morning; now there’s dry cereal and toast and a mean note saying not to take any food or drinks out of the breakfast area (despite only disposable coffee cups and paper plates), which is ridiculous that you can’t toast a bagel and bring it to your room. The pool is wonderful, but is it heated, as advertised? I really don’t think so. Also there are no longer towels for the pool. Lastly, the gardens are still beautiful but I don’t see that lasting long as no one is weeding them regularly. That said, the new management is very friendly, no problem with early check-in, it’s one of a diminishing number of places that make up your room every day, and it’s a great location. We just miss Ted and his muffins.
