Green Dragon, Welton by Marston's Inns

Needs a heck of a lot of work doing to it. Stayed for 2 nights. Room 9. We waited ages for someone to check us in. There were staff just stood around, we had to ask someone to actually check us in after 5 minutes of being ignored. It looked run down and needs TLC. The state of the stairwell made me feel a bit sick. The bed was comfy, but it wasn't a double bed as advertised, it was 2 single beds put next to each other... at different heights. So the left-hand side of the bed was comfy! There were plenty of plug sockets & coat hangers. The room was nice & warm. The bathroom wasn't nice at all. The toilet seat was barely attached to the bowl, so it was a delicate balancing act whenever you sat on it. The shower screen had a gap of about an inch between the bottom of it & the edge of the bath, so water covered the floor whenever you showered. There was orange rust (or something) running down the wall from the handrail to the edge of the bath. The worst part, though, was the leftover hair from the previous occupant left in the bathtub - it hadn't been cleaned between guests. I had breakfast there & wished I hadn't. The 'smashed avocado on toast' looked like green baby food smeared onto anaemic bread with a spoon. The softest toast I've ever had. Horrifically overpriced. Inedible. I don't think you could pay me to stay there again. I wish I'd read other reviews (of both the hotel and restaurant aspects) before booking. I wish I'd asked for a refund, to be perfectly honest. Bed = good. Everything else = awful.

We ate here recently with my family for a birthday and the food was really good. A special thank you to the waitress Evie who looked after us and was really helpful when my daughter was struggling to decide what to have. It made a huge difference to our experience having our children looked after so well (and the rest of the party)

The pub is lovely has a brilliant laid back atmosphere, we sat down and then ordered our food, starter for my husband and main meal for both. The food still hadn’t arrived 45 mins later, I asked about our food and was told they would check on it. 5 mins later we were told the starter would be out soon, I was hungry and asked can they all come out together please ? The lady said yes no problem, 15 mins later our food arrived, the meal was lovely the starter was very burnt and crispy and frankly un-eatable to be fair. I had ordered a pudding instead of a starter, triple chocolate brownie, the ice cream was full of ice, the brownie was basic and the Belgium chocolate sauce didn’t taste very chocolatey. All in all won’t be going back to be fair.

After seeing an advert for breakfasts on social media, when friends came to stay I thought we could take bring them here for a hearty breakfast before they set off back home. I’m so pleased we did - whilst it was quiet it was still atmospheric. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We had three cooked breakfasts and an omelette and each one was cooked to perfection - we were all nicely satisfied at the end and the prices were decent too! We will definitely come back for breakfast another time, after the warm welcome and wonderful food. Thank you!

I took my family for late lunch at 2pm on a Friday afternoon, waited to be seated, and was told to just sit anywhere (which is fine, but would have been nicer without a rude attitude) two female members of staff who really didn’t want any customers in, they were cold, rude and not even a thank you between them. Which is a shame as it’s very local to us, and has a good set up to be one of the best in the area, if they can get their front of house working well, as the food is good, if I could have only tipped the kitchen I would have, but I won’t return due to this experience. I also contacted Marstons to explain my experience and they replied to basically just say “thanks for your feedback and sorry it wasn’t good”

Already can see a big change going on in the right direction, A new manager with inspiration, seeing a big change in presentation of the bar, and already working on the outside patio. Really nice to see someone cares. Along way to go I’m sure, Rome was not built in a day so patience is required but at least we are seeing a rapid change , dated 16th June
