The Taverne 1879 restaurant is part of the Bürgenstock Resort, above Lake Lucerne. You can reach the Bürgenstock by car, but it is much more interesting to take the catamaran ferry from Lucerne across Lake Lucerne to Kehrsiten and from there take a funicular up the very steep stretch of about 500 meters. Once you get to the top, you will find a beautifully designed complex with several buildings that belong to the resort and encourage you to take a walk. For lunch, we went to the Taverne 1879, a very well-kept building in the Alpine style with a wonderful view of the alpine pastures and mountains. Ordering and paying for the food is done with a cell phone and a QR code assigned to each table, which worked wonderfully. The quality of the cuisine met expectations. Like the house, the service is very well-kept, friendly and courteous. Combined with a short hike on the Bürgenstock and a coffee in the resort itself at the end, this was a day trip for us, a unique experience, although all in all quite expensive.

The Taverne 1879 restaurant is beautifully situated on the Bürgenstock. The view from the terrace is unique. We were given a very friendly welcome and accompanied to our table. The very friendly waitress brought our little daughter something to paint, which she really enjoyed. The dishes were all delicious and were served quickly. The Taverne 1879 is a perfect restaurant for young and old - we will definitely come back.

Unable to take an order properly and in addition the extra dishes that you 1) did not order and 2) did not eat since you sent them back ... are still on the bill but I realized it too late, the bill was already paid and I was no longer there. It's very pleasant!

After the tour of Lucerne, we will go with you to the Bürgenstock Hotel to have a cup of coffee with amazing views of Lake Lucerne. Then you can go down to the shore by funicular and go on a boat for a walk on the lake.

We "only" stopped in for a cappuccino. We were greeted very friendly. The quality of the expensive (CHF 6.00) cappuccino was abysmal. The fact that it comes completely from a machine is acceptable. But not even a few chocolate sprinkles on top. A cookie next to it, not a thing. Any simple café scores much better in this respect. Even worse when clearing the table, the guest is still sitting at the table and everything is cleared away before they pay (not just at our table). In our eyes, a no-go. Do they want to get rid of us "normal people" as quickly as possible? We wish we could go back to the old Bürgenstock with its quality of service.

Wir haben uns ganz und gar nicht "Härzlich Willkommä" gefühlt. Das Servicepersonal war weit entfernt von freundlich und gar nicht motiviert uns in einer angemessenen Zeit zu bedienen. Der gemischte Salat war vielseitig zusammengesetzt und frisch, gut angemacht und bekömmlich. Das Gehackte mit Hörnli war geschmacklich gut mit etwas zu viel Öl. Die viele Werbung für Gäste aus der Umgebung hat uns motiviert die Taverne 1879 zu besuchen, weiterempfehlen können wir sie leider nicht.

The room was very small. I was placed on the third floor. There was no elevator, and it was a pain to carry my big luggage up. It was very inconvenient for us to live in this place, there was no service desk and it was 400 meters away, which was not convenient to walk there in winter. I was also scammed when I checked in.
