Saffron Beach Bistro & Cottages

Just steps from Lake Victoria, the restaurant provides very good and friendly service led by Diness, the manager of the restaurant. There is plenty of dishes on the menu, but I would recommend the Indian and Ugandan food (especially goat) at very decent price. If you're in Entebbe, you must have dinner here.

My stay at Saffron started out well. The pick up from the airport was timely and the car was clean. The driver, Brian, was very respectful and professional. The check-in process was flawless. Promise, the daytime receptionist was so friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The meals were well prepared and they heeded to my requests of special meals due to my food allergies. Their medium fish was so big I couldn’t finish it by myself. They even accepted to keep half the fish for me for the next meal. The rooms were are well maintained and because I extended my stay by a day, they requested whether I needed my room cleaned. However, some of the facilities as shown by the online photos on ******* were non-existent on ground. For example, the photo of benches on a mowed lawn by the lake which in reality is nonexistent. Similarly, my last morning was the worst. I could not get hot shower, the system had a malfunction and no room had a hot shower. After waiting for 3 hours to have the the hot shower fixed, I was disappointed to realize that nothing had been done and the staff were not really bothered. The other disappointment was the fact that the receptionist’s phone was disabled in the night and early morning making it difficult to communicate with the reception desk as you have to physically walk there yet there are phones in the room which should ease that.

I stayed for a month at this excellent mid range hotel. During my time there we had plentiful hot water, toiletries in the bathroom, fully operational AC, fast Wifi and a working TV. The bedroom was slightly smaller than average, probably due to the super king-size bed which tended to dominate the room. Having said that the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was pretty standard for a hotel of this size and price, consisting of fruits, eggs, toast, the occasional sausage and very tasty sauted vegetables. The location was amazing, sitting on the Lakeshore and the restaurant stood head and shoulders above it's nearby competitors. At weekends it does become very busy and I would suggest reserving a table in advance. The food and service at the bar were very good with many different options. The most popular selection at the restaurant appeared to be Tilapia which was hug As a non fish I am unable to comment on the quality. Most people were unable to eat it all and had it packed to takeaway. I loved their authentic curries and their wood fired pizzas. During the week it was very quiet and spent hours sat at beach bar enjoying the plentiful wild life. I cannot speak highly enough about the staff. The management team were great and are currently upgrading the facility at pace. As you can probably gather that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return again in the new year. There were a few things which we had no control over. There was no hot water and you could not control the AC thermostat. Whenever we called the receptionist regarding the hot water, they stated that we would get it in a little while. That while never came…………

The stay was quite uncomfortable. There was no water pressure in the sinks and showers in the bathroom. And there was no hot water. So after a long and tiring journey from the USA, we were unable to have even a decent wash and shower. Basic amenities were also lacking such as inadequate toiletries. Additionally, the air conditioner was malfunctioning and the remote to operate it was unavailable. The complaint to management fell on deaf ears. Truly a sad experience for place that otherwise has a nice location.

location good, but the hotel was tacky! Tiny room, 1 AC remote for all rooms. No glasses to drink from, dim bulb, so couldn't see, overflowing dustbin, so room not cleaned properly. NO HOT WATER! Had to have a cold shower after a long journey! Overall a bad experience
