Driftwood Shores Resort

When we checked in our room had not been cleaned. The kitchen counter hadn’t been wiped, there were crumbles all over the floor and the shower had hair from previous guests. We immediately asked for cleaning and a manager came and wiped the counter. She told us they would come next morning to do a proper cleaning. They didn’t come. After that we asked for a proper cleaning twice. It took them 24 hours from our check-in to clean, but not the crumbles or the bathroom just doing the beds. I can’t recommend anyone staying at this hotel - it’s expensive with lousy cleaning and poor service. The location is great and if I would come here again I would check for Airbnb instead.

We arrived at 5:30pm after a full day of travel and our room was not ready. Our room was on the fourth floor and the elevator nearest our room was out of order when we checked in. We used the center elevator that night and made the long trip from center elevator to our room with our luggage. Next morning, the center elevator was now also out of order. That left the only working elevator all the way at the other end of the complex. I met more than one of us senior citizens who were stranded because they were unable to use the stairs. They don't service the room if you are staying less than 7 days. The most disappointing thing for me was the lack of concern, compassion and care of the front office staff. They seemed unconcerned that we had issues with the stay. In our discussions with them they were inconsiderate, disrespectful and rude. I highly recommend the River House Inn in old town Florence on the river. It's newer, has a better price. You can drive out to the beach. I will visit Florence again, I will never stay at the Driftwood and I will never recommend the Driftwood.

Underwhelming is an understatement, but more importantly I can't sleep because I don't feel safe, here. Secondly, this resort has a no AC policy! Which isn't mentioned on their website at all. When I called the front desk after seeing the note on the thermostat to see if it was a joke, the only thing the kid behind the desk could say was "yeah". Initially he said he might could find a single fan for our 3 bedroom suite that was rented for our party of 6, but managed to find one for each room by the time I made it to the front desk. I was told to open the doors and windows for air... which by the way don't have screens on them and there is currently gale force winds, blowing sand off the dunes, directly onto the back patio of our room. Second, there is NO safety latch or dead bolt on the door to secure it from someone on the outside from coming in. Lastly, the suite was incredibly under stocked on everything. Salt, no pepper. Only one extra roll of toilet paper. Only two steak knives, two dishwasher tablets, and exactly 6 sets of cutlery and dishes, which is fine if you only want to eat one meal a day for two days because after that, you run out and have to hand wash everything. What was supposed to be an extended family vacation, after driving up from Texas turned into a waste of money. The people we came to see didn't want to stay here after the first night due to the lack of comfort and AC and went home. We ended up having to drive an hour further just to see them. I don't recommend this property it was a HUGE disappointment.

The room was fine. It is older but the furniture is sturdy. Bed and linens clean and comfortable. I slept great. (Until 3am when fire alarm went off. Another review in March mentioned this. Mike at the desk in the am said lightening hit and they are waiting on new electrical panels. So call and ask if this repair has been made. I should have read reviews before I booked!) I now realize they knew the fire alarm might go off in the middle of the night and didn’t call me to warm me and give me the option of staying elsewhere. I’m sure financially that would be bad but it discourages people from coming back. I had to sleep in later than I wanted so I didn’t drive sleepy the following day. Instead of getting a partial credit I booked another two nights for a good price in 3 weeks. I will check with the hotel prior to see if the repair is done. I will update this review and write another if I stay again. On road trips I take my own pillow - I’m fussy. Hotels need to put variety of pillows from firm to fluffy. There were 4. The view is fabulous and the beach is right there. There is a restaurant on site. I didn’t go in. Call and verify hours esp if going off season. There is a full kitchen in the room which I used and was adequately stocked. I took three photos which I will attach. If the alarm is fixed I’ll go back.

So disappointed. On 12/14 I booked a ground level directly from Driftwood Shores. Spoke to a real person to book. A family member already had an existing reservation and I asked that their reservavation be moved to the ground floor to adjoining rooms. No problem I was told on 12/14. I arrived on 12/30 and family was to arrive 12/31. Upon check in, our adjoining rooms were booked on the 4th floor instead of ground floor. Family has small kids so 4th floor would not be good. No problem the girl said as I checked in on the 30th; we have 2 adjoining rooms available on the ground floor. Awesome! That is what I was told on the 14th. Family arrived as scheduled on the 31st. Reservation was not an adjoining room as promised thecday before. At 12:30 pm they said that because it wasn't adjoining room that they would expedite cleaning a ground floor room that was close to us in the next 2 hrs. Came back after 3 and was told that the room would be ready in about 15 minutes and gave us a pool key. Fast forward after multiple check ins, room was not ready until after 5. So ultimately, the story ends that everyone finally got in their rooms. Ending downside is that my "adjoining" room neigbors are not the family we wanted but a loud, drunk, gravely voiced female that seems to laugh at her own words and it isn't even 7 pm yet. So not at all what was expected and/or booked/promised upon reservation (s). Now, in all fairness, family had booked from a 3rd party but, still, twice we requested adjoining rooms and twice I was told nomproblem. Do better Driftwood or just be honest when you can't follow through in the time frame you tell us. This is not the first time that this has happened. When I inquired at 12:30 why after 2 times the adjoining room was not available I literally got a shrug from the staff member. I expect better.

I was looking forward to staying at this resort. It has a swimming pool and hot tub, which were great. We had a great view from the 4th floor! The only thing that wasn’t good was the bed. It was so uncomfortable! Even the pillows were hard. So disappointing.
