Thoroughly enjoyed a midweek stay at the Inn, and can't wait to return. My room in the main house was enormous, with a king-size bed and lush sheets, fireplace, jacuzzi, terrace, and ensuite bath. The inn's new owners Rom and Maria could not be more welcoming, and have quickly added their personal touch to the historic main building. They have so many great plans to enhance an already stunning property; their enthusiasm is infectious. You can do as much or as little as you choose here. Rocking in one of the hammocks may be all you need to relax and refresh, but if you want more, the Inn has a private access road leading to the pristine lake, and there are rowboats and kayaks at the ready. Also a two-mile-plus walking trail and a pool and badminton court. And yes, it's less than two hours from NYC. Do bring tick spray! RS

In over 28 years of traveling and staying in many inns and bed and breakfasts, my husband and I have never left early. If it had been earlier in the evening when we arrived, we would not have stayed the night we did. When we checked in, Matt was very friendly and helpful with suggestions for dinner. We were also so thankful that he did it charge us for the 2 additional nights we were scheduled to stay there. We have never seen the photos on a website be so drastically different than the reality. Our room was dirty. There were many cobwebs, a few dead bugs, stains on the robes, paint chipping off, wallpaper coming off, and the carpet was worn through in places and so dirty I put towels down to walk on. We were shocked! The website looks wonderful. When we returned home, I wrote a kind email to thank them for letting us out of 2 nights and to inquire about the charge for the night we stayed. When I saw that they charged us almost $500 for the one night we stayed, I asked if they would be willing to lower that amount considering the condition of the room and the fact that we did not eat or drink anything (we left at 7am just to get out of there). They could have responded and declined to adjust the charge; however, I received no response. With cleaning and updating, this property could be exceptional. We can only speak about the room that we had and the parts of the main house we saw.

A real 'diamond in the rough'. My wife and I both really enjoyed the inn. Matt and the staff were extremely attentive and helpful. Our room (Tack Room) was terrific. Worth the ride. Definitely recommended!

The perfect place for a Catskills getaway, the Inn is set on a gorgeous lake offering boats, lovely pool, easy scenic hikes off the property and plenty more hiking nearby. The rooms are large and comfortable, the homemade breakfast delicious and plentiful and the innkeeper Matt is welcoming, helpful and immediately there to answer any query or requests. Common rooms are full of all kinds of activities for the evenings. We cannot wait to go back (or move in?).

I loved this place. The 18 acre resort is just what we needed for a Little R&R. We stayed in the carriage house which is separate from the main building. Our room had a loft, a full kitchen ,and a gas fired fireplace. PERFECT for our stay. The stairs and the floor are slightly pitched due to the age of the bldg. {140years} but adds to the character! of the place. there was two nice flat screen TVs with cable so we could catch the World Cup on that rainy day.. The lake is a brief 5 minute walk from the inn.We took in the view all by ourselves very serene .There is a hiking trail which is about 2.1 miles long . I did it early in the morning with my recused G.S. dog. A nice trail not difficult . Matt the Innkeeper is an attentive host. a good candidate for Innkeeper of the year He took our breakfast orders , cooked our breakfast { excellent BTW} got us some more towels and TP. Chatted us up @ Breakfast and took care of check in/out. He make us feel like family... The rest of the staff are equally attentive as well. I seen one employee picking up broken branches outside the dining room. The others zipping around in golf carts taking care of the rest of the property . The two woman who served us breakfast were both friendly and polite. Everyone is great .

Had a very nice time ! Bronze room was perfect in the main lodge, and our host Adam was great. Breakfast was very good..the grounds were so relaxing along with the pool. Went boating on the lake which was beautiful, but it takes a 20 min. walk to get there, but you can grab a free bike and be there in 10. Or drive car and park across from the dam 2 min. Not much to do in area but if going to Bethel woods perfect 20 mins. The museum was great! Buy tickets online..cheaper. We came from Woodstock which had plenty of things to do with shops etc. 1 1/2 hrs away. We stayed 3 nights at each place. Italian restaurants in both towns were great..Solalia/forestburgh..Cucina/Woodstock. Loved our stay! Thank you!

Went for a romantic weekend with my husband and have not stopped talking about the Inn since we came back. The room was clean, with a beautiful fireplace and spa quality sheets on the bed. The breakfasts were delicious, the staff was soooo nice and accommodating and the grounds were amazing. We loved exploring the property, canoeing around the lake and enjoyed the Woodstock museum & grounds close by. I'm sorry it took soo long to write this review (we were there in July of 2019) but I just recommended it to my cousin and decided to finally get it done.

On the website, The Inn at Lake Joseph looks pristine and I’m sure it once was, but now it is old and tired. I don’t require much, but cleanliness is at the top of my list. We were not offered any help carrying our bags to our room (in the Gold category) at the top of 20 precarious (for travelers of a certain age) stairs. The room was dirty with heavy dust, and a layer of dead bugs on the window sills. The blinds and windows were dirty as well. One of the “clean” towels in the bathroom had obviously been used by someone else as it smelled heavily of patchouli. The “private sun deck” (about a six foot square) overlooked a large garbage bin and a parking lot. If one attempted to sit on the deck while the air conditioner was running, hot air blew in the direction of one of the two deck chairs and water dripped from the air conditioner onto the deck. Breakfast was served from 8:30-10:30 but was more than a half hour late. On one day, the chef had called in sick and on the next we were told that service hours were “approximate.” There are many rules—no unleashed dogs, no dogs in the pool area, face masks must be worn in public indoor spaces, etc. I saw all of these rules being broken. When we asked about housekeeping, just for picking up garbage and leaving new towels, we were told there was none due to the pandemic. Needless to say, the room price (close to $1200 for three nights) should have at least guaranteed a clean and comfortable stay.
