Loch Leven Hotel & Distillery

Well ……. arrived at september 3. for three nights. We were placed in a tiny, worn down room in a tacky sidebuilding. I could not go through the door ….. I am 185 cm. The room had sloping walls and really needed a handyman. There was a very small window, which was the only opportunity for fresh air and light. The toilet is small and had no shelf to put toiletry bags. There was actually nothing in the room except toilet and shower. The hot water was made by an eletric water heater. It worked “on and of” - so we were cooked or cooled down. Terrible. The room was clean when we arrived. On the second day without any kind of cleaning or inspektion we went to the reception. We had very wet and dirty towels - no toilet paper - a dirty carpet - and an overflowing garbage can. The guy in the reception couldn’t care less. We should ask for cleaning. In our booking confirmation daily cleaning is included. The hotel has a destillery. We bought a gin tasting and tour in the destillery. The previously owner (sold the hotel two months ago) gave us the tour. He must be laughing all the way to the bank ;-) He is a lot better at distilling gin than running a hotel - end the new owner is obviously not more skilled. The room where we were were staying, was at a level like a cheep hostel. It is totally overpriced - over £ 200 per night. We are going to a Marriott Hotel tomorrow. It is £ 20 cheaper per night for a real **** hotel with a real **** breakfast. The food in the restaurant was good and honest. We will give the extremely nice and serviceminded waiter in the restaurant - a lady from Hungary - five stars. It is really sad, that she has to work in a place like this.

My husband and I stayed here for one night. It is a very old but quaint hotel with a great restaurant and bar. The room was comfortable. The bathroom was small. I'm not sure if it had air conditioning but we just opened the windows. We had an amazing view of the Loch. We had an awesome experience at the small bar (pub). We met the most amazing local family whose grandfather had just passed away so they were having the after funeral dinner there. It was so much fun! The restaurant was really good too with good service. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Very friendly staff especially Stefano. Food was lovely. Lola enjoyed meeting McGregor. Views of the loch and mountains outstanding.

Nous avons dormi dans une annexe plutôt confortable. Le petit déjeuner est très bien. Très calme et proche de Fort William ou nous avons dîné. L’accueil est sympathique. Petit déjeuner à partir de 8h c’est un peu tard quand on a un ferry à prendre

The hotel is not clean, the room had dead bugs, thick dust and dirty tissues from previous guests. Shower had thick grime on the edge of the screen and everywhere had an unpleasant odour. Worst hotel stay ever. A loud noise kept us awake which we were told was either the air conditioning or a faulty fridge. The manager told us to write in when we complained and after several attempts were offered a discount on a return stay. Feel ripped off and ruined our time in the beautiful highlands.

The photos are misleading and possibly taken some years ago. You can't really see the loch as it is obscured by a lot of large trees and shrubs and the noise from the traffic on the bridge is loud and continuous. However, there is an excellent view of the mountains in the distance and our stay was pleasant, but overpriced.
