The Drifthaven at Gearhart

It was pretty nice. Nice location. Comfortable bed. The only complaint: there were slight maintenance issues. One blind didn't work properly in the kitchen and a blind upstairs has broken slats. Unit #2.

The Drifthaven is an especially cute coastal inn down the block from a bakery, grocery store, and the beach. The rooms were tastefully decorated. I loved being able to open the windows and get a cool cross breeze going at night. My only wish is that there was a full-length mirror somewhere in the suite!

We came here for our anniversary and I had very high hopes and expectations. I thought this would be a hidden gem; however, while the property is cute and close to the beach, there was a lot of negatives. To start, check-in was online and while it does add flexibility and convenience, there was no complimentary drink, like listed on the website, or any information provided on the property amenities. We never received information on how breakfast worked or what time it would arrive. While the breakfast being delivered was a nice touch, it was the same thing every morning, and I had to pay extra for a packaged gluten free granola bar, which was unexpected for the $400+ it cost to stay here a night. Breakfast consisted of two OJs, two clementines, a gf granola bar and a non-gf pastry (the same each day) for my partner. Then, there are the additional amenities the website mentions like bikes, wagons, beach chairs, etc. However, there was never information provided on how to utilize these things or where the “garage” was located. I had reached out through their “chat” function on the check-in app and never got a response. While each unit has a garage, and there was a unit that had a garage sign above it, the door was closed, and again with lack of information I was not going to assume that was the garage that housed these amenities. I was finally able to ask a staff member who was delivering breakfast where the “garage” was and how it works. She showed me and that day we were able to use beach chairs. Although, unfortunately, we only were able to use the items one time, the subsequent times we tried to go into the “garage”, it was locked. The breakfast and different amenities advertised on the website really sold me on booking this property, but unfortunately we didn’t have a great experience. The other big thing was there is no air conditioning. We were in a unit that had a small bedroom upstairs and it was a sauna. There was a thermostat in the unit, so we thought it was just turned off. We turned it on but it did not get any cooler. The first night was brutal - very warm. When I again used the chat function in the properties app to communicate with them, I once again never heard back. So again, I asked the young lady delivering breakfast about the AC and she informed me there was none, and that this is a common complaint of this unit, and that they put an extra fan in the closet. The fans helped, yes, but the first two nights were extremely uncomfortable. It would have been nice to know this previously or even to have a window AC unit if this was a known issue. A few other small things that occurred that just were not expected in relation to the price of staying here and the previous amazing reviews was the lack of communication with staff and housekeeping didn’t come one day. Also, keep in mind that the mini fridge in the unit is so full with things they have for sale, that there is no room for your own groceries or items. So, while our stay wasn’
