Filoxenia Hotel Monemvasia

We arrived yesterday 23/7 to find a very foul smell in the room. I thought it may have been freshly painted but my wife just could not stand the smell. We reported it to the reception girl and my wife was asked if she had a problem with her nose. She found this remark very embarrassing and very unprofessional from anyone working at the reception desk. A few hours later we went back to the room and the room still smelled like excrement. This time we reported it to the manager and he went to the room with another staff member and they had sprays with them to disinfect the room and make the foul smell go away. When they came back down they said to me that the previous people in the room blocked the toilet and that this is where the smell was coming from. THE ROOM SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND CLEANED BEFORE THE CUSTOMER GETS THERE. IT WASN'T. If it was checked , they would have noticed the foul smell and disinfected the room thoroughly. The staff telling us that they didn't notice anything is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. And another thing, the toilets need to be flushed at least 2 times or more every time you use them,as the water coming through the cistern is not strong enough to thoroughly flush and clean the toilet. Apart from all that , this is a good hotel, close to everything , it's just a pity that I had to write such a bad review, which I believe they thoroughly deserve.

Service from Katerina at the buffet breakfast restaurant was exceptional. She brought us tea in a tea cup each morning. She was pleasant and accommodating. Food was good. The only thing I would suggest is having a pot of coffee in the lobby for early risers.

Fabulous location and view Fabulous! Rooms have been renovated, location amazing. Directly on the beachfront with a private balcony. We caught a taxi to Monevasia for 4 euros (1 kilometre) to preserve our energy to walk to the top of Monevasia and walked back after dinner when it was cooler in the evening. A great time to see Monevasia when the tourists have left :) . Great cafes and restaurants nearby. Highly recommend for a 3 star hotel The gentleman at reception was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
