"This property is dated to say the least. It needs a makeover. The power points weren’t functioning as they should and nothing was done even after informing the reception. The breakfast spread was good, mainly local food which was nice. Housekeeping did their job but the free snacks in the room weren’t replenished. Maybe it’s a one time thing but there was no mentioned. Not a big deal tho.  The location is prefect if one wants to explore Penang’s architecture on foot. Many colonial buildings surrounds the property. Close to many street food places. On the whole, the experience was just above par."

"It's not the first time we stayed at this hotel and we were not lucky with our room this time. We booked the Queen room but the room was not big enough for the queen bed. Only one bedside table and you had to climb onto the bed to get in., no room on one side. There was no room for people to pass by each other. The room size was for a single person. The shower was not enclosed and the floor got saturated after use and no slippers were provided. The only bathroom light was covered by the shower curtain so you wash in the dark. Poor light for shaving. No hot water at the sink for shaving. We chose the room because it had a window in the photo but it turned out to be just for ventilation. No view, no sunshine, just the adjacent room window a metre away. No toiletries apart from an all-in-one soap bottle in the shower. No hand towels, just the large one. TV did not work. The breakfast was not great, little variation of the same food every other day. No cereal because there wasn't any milk. Powdered cream for mud coffee and tea. No real butter for toast. And now the good things. Location, because they could not mess that up. Even a tent would sell well with the location. Excellent cleaning team, I watched the working in the lobby area. I will not stay here again. Take my advice, pay a little more for another hotel in the location and enjoy your stay. Usually, the management replies to customers opinions with a standard offer of apology and promises to do better. I don't see much response to previous reviews. Perhaps they will respond to this one. Watch this space."

"The hotel was near to eateries and some malls but the malls are not the ‘high end’ type. Almost all the food options in the mall are Muslim friendly. Hotel service was good but we didn’t make use of their facilities such as the swimming pool and gym. The breakfast buffet was not really fantastic as the food is almost the same daily and not very tasty.. quite disappointing for a 4-star hotel under Shangri-La group. The room is quite spacious but toilet is a bit small. Water pressure from toilet bowl flushing was strong and noisy and water will start splashing around if we don’t close the toilet seat. The journey to hotel from airport is about 25-30 minutes depending on traffic conditions. Overall I would suggest staying at Gurney area instead of this area as the food options are better at Gurney."

"Location is good, park our car & we walk out everyday to nearby eateries. View from our room is spectacular & watch sunset if in room during sunset time. Looking forward to coming Durian-cation offers by St.Giles Hotel. Only setback during this trip is the EV car charger which is not functioning throughout my stay. Also info from St.Giles website on EV car charging specs is inaccurate. Too bad we didn’t manage to charge our car at hotel, but managed to charge at next door Granite Hotel"
