Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

Grootbos is exceptional in every way. This is the best accommodation we have ever booked. From the balcony a breath taking panorama unfolds showcasing majestic mountains, vibrant wild fynbos, white beaches and glistening sea punctuated by whales breaching, it was stunning. Everything was perfect, fantastic staff, wonderful food, great 4 x 4 flower drives, whale watching. Delve into the heart of nature at Grootbos will not be disappointed.

Beautiful countryside but for the cost of the tour , we would not repeat it. There was very little fynbos in flower in April. Might be an idea not to do tours if there is not much to see. A fair amount of time was spent at the florigium which we would have rather done on our own. The lunch was by far the highlight, beautifully set in an old house- using fynbos ingredients and absolutely delicious. We felt that this restaurant should form part of the painting display area- thus allowing one to spend much more time there.

What a fabulous place! Overlooking the beautiful South African coast was amazing! The lodging was luxurious and exceptional. The entire staff attentive and friendly (Caroline and Bianca served us several times and were always pleasant) – we felt very welcomed. We had delicious meals – complements to the chefs! Special thanks to Lisa, our Nature Guide. She took us on a 4x4 Nature Drive and Coastal Excursion – she was so very knowledgeable in describing the various plants and environs. We are so glad we opted to do these activities.

We stayed at Grootbos for two nights in the Forest Lodge as part of our honeymoon. This was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at - the service and attention to detail is exceptional, as are the suites, the food and wine and the spa. While we were there we had a couples massage and did the big marine 5 boat trip, the Lady Stanford river cruise and the 4x4 botanical tour. Our guide Nicol really made the stay for us - he went above and beyond to tailor the experience for us and one of our favourite moments of our whole honeymoon was when Nicol made an impromptu stop at the beach as he was driving us back to Grootbos because he saw a glimpse of whales. He then took us right down to the rocks by the sea so that we could watch the sunset with whales swimming past with a bottle of champagne. The staff generally were amazing from the reception staff and the waiting staff to the spa team. Everyone was so friendly and made us feel very special. They organised lots of special touches for our honeymoon, including a surprise private dinner down in the wine cellar one evening. We couldn’t recommend Grootbos enough!

Grootbos was absolutely wonderful and the view of the coastline is better than the pictures! We stayed at the Forest Lodge for 3 nights and we did a beach picnic (highly recommended), cave exploration, flower/fynbos safari, and horseback riding. We even got lucky enough to enjoy a special boma dinner in the forest. Grootbos is an easy 2 hour drive from Cape Town and worth every penny! Our guide, Ruaan, and server, Candice, took excellent care of us. Many thanks to all of the staff for a memorable and enjoyable stay for our family.

We stayed in Grootbos as part of our honeymoon trip and I have to say it could be the best hotel we have ever visited, anywhere in the world. The suites, the food, the facilities and the staff are all absolutely exemplary - and needless to say the view and area is divine! The staff were incredibly attentive and even organised a surprise dinner for us one evening in their private wine cellar, which was an amazing experience - they really do go the extra mile for you here and will make your stay so memorable and special. We have been fortunate to travel around the world a lot and Grootbos would be our number one choice to return to.
