28 Gates Luxury Farmstay and Fishery

We had a wonderful 2 nights at Michael and Susie's beautifully renovated farmhouse. There is plenty of room to breathe and just be. A delightful greeting of homemade bread and biscuits awaited us. Susie gave us a tour of the property and some ground rules for safety, quick history lessons, and introduction to some of the animals. They are such charming characters. David utilised the blacksmithing workshop sessions and put his creative skill to the test. We highly recommend that you take the time to check out 28 gates' farm stay.

28 Gates Luxury Farmstay is set in a beautiful hidden valley, off the beaten track, about an hour north west of Hobart. The house for guests was wonderfully comfortable, simply and elegantly furnished. We booked a two course meal for our first night, which Susie delivered to the door. It was tasty and generous in portion size such that we had enough for dinner again the following evening, which made an initially somewhat expensive option, affordable, and a treat. The dessert was scrumptious! The trout fishing was a lure (!) for my partner and he was rewarded for his effort. And I used the opportunity to do final corrections to my (now published) novel, so the memories are special. Treat yourself, enjoy the peace and quiet, and the relaxing surroundings.

Covid delayed our 2020 stay by 5 months and it turned out to be a cracker stay with a tiger trout and brown trout caught and released. Our return was in 2022 and it felt like a family visit rather than a weekend getaway. Susie and Michael are the best hosts, take the time to have them over for a glass of wine! Don't go past the home cooked lamb roast dinner from Susie and the honesty gin bar is a terrific addition. The accommodation is superb, the work on the old forgery is beautiful and the working dog pack, sheep and horse you can hand feed (plus Burt the pig dog) are adorable! If you need a good dose of refreshment, fresh air and some chill out time taking in the calming scenery, get yourself booked for at least 2 nights, 3 at a minimum.Take a tour of the shearing sheds and take a short drive down to Lawrenny Distillery for a fantastic guided tasting or learn how to fly fish with a local guide. We stayed at 28 Gates and had a wonderful few days. The Parsons family are very welcoming and we enjoyed delicious meals every evening. Got to feed the animals and spend time down at the lake. I'd totally recommend it to anyone who loves farm life.

We so enjoyed our two nights at 28 Gates. A warm welcome from Susie, Ronnie and the farm animals. Beautiful accommodation with everything we could possibly need plus the most delicious cake and home-cooked bread. We played cards and went for gorgeous walks. One if the highlights - a tour of the farm with Ronnie in the 4WD. So very interesting as well as beautiful. Highly recommended!
