One hestitates to leave a bad or mediocre review of a property where the hard product, overall, is good, and the brand equity around the world is associated with finesse (the Maldives CB is impossible to fault). But this needs to be said to help the hotel improve, in a hgihly competitive environment where other properties, like the Eden Rock and Hotel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf, are always at the top of their game. Once again, the experiece here was substandard. Lunch at La Case, the higher end restaurant than La Cabane, was truly horrendous. The service was slow and disengaged (are they all stagiares who just arrived for the end of the season, and why are so many crowding the valet station with the restaurant not properly covered?) One could be forgiving of service ineptitude if the food were something refined. It's unnecessary to rehearse every problematic detail, but highlighting the worst of the worst, the burgers were really dire... A small whiteish thin square of chewy and tasteless meat coupled with a square of processed cheese that were served cold, really shocked the senses. Even takeout joints on the island serve a better quality burger. And the whole experience was so beyond redemption that one didn't have the heart to complain. It's as if the kitchen just didn't care what it sends out and there's no F&B management exercising quality control. Curiously, the previous night speaking to a couple from California in another St B restaurant, they said they were just at La Case and it was the worst dining experience they had had on the island and their only bad meal. Something is clearly wrong. This is no good for the marque of Cheval Blanc, for St Barts, and la gastronomie française. Please fix it! The setting and ambiance are just too nice to be spoiled by this degree of bad.
