Wonderful! Unfortunately we had to cancel our 5 day stay unexpectedly because of illness. Even though the reservation was non-refundable, the owner, Catherine, was very gracious and refunded a portion of our monies spent on booking the room. She was extremely kind. I would highly recommend a stay at her Inn. I am sure it is as lovely as the owner.

My husband and I spent two nights at 18 Vine Inn and Carriage House. We were welcomed by one of the proprietors with fresh peony flowers from the garden, a bottle of Sparkling Wine and relaxing music playing on the TV in our room. (For me, that was a nice touch) The location is within walking distance to Hammondsport downtown area, which includes a lot of shops, a small grocery, the lake and restaurants. Parking is off street and on the property. Reservations were made on-line and not an issue; however, just to be safe, I did confirm directly with the owner a few days before our arrival. While I only briefly saw the owner, she was always responsive to my text messages. The property is nice, but some of the outside areas need some TLC. The inside is a bit dated, but very clean and welcoming. Our room was also clean and the bedding had crisp, white sheets. (No nasty bedspreads! ) All of the doors to the other rooms were open and they all looked well maintained and efficient. One really cute idea for a family of four has trundle beds in one room, (fun for kids) and a queen bed for the parents, all with an adjacent large bathroom with a spa tub. Coffee and tea are available in the dining room 24/7. Breakfast for us were gift cards to a local eatery. However, every morning there was fresh fruit waiting for us: strawberries and bananas. This is our third visit to Hammondsport in as many years. The last place we stayed, an Airbnb, had a non-functioning or difficult to use TV. We would stay at 18 Vine again.

We stayed with our extended family of 14. The floor plan worked well for us for the most part and the house had some of the expected unique features of an older historic home. It was a close two-block walk to Hammondsport and Keuka lake. We also really enjoyed the outdoor space including the pool (well-maintained) and firepit (you'll have to get your own firewood somewhere nearby). The property's proximity to nearby museums, wineries, and other attractions is a big plus. However, while there were several living spaces that were good for gathering, the house needs some significant decluttering. There were many pieces of furniture and nick knacks in disrepair in nearly every room that should be removed to make the living areas more spacious and functional. Likewise, it seemed like every horizontal space and shelf was jammed with the books and memorabilia of past decades -- again much to be decluttered. Also the kitchen supplies should be thinned out and organized while still having plenty of dishes for a large group because there is no usable cabinet space for food storage. Also most of the pots don't seem to have lids. The description provided about the property needs to be clarified for renters. There are 5 bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. The layouts are a little unique due to retrofitting them to the existing structure but are usable. The bedroom on the main floor has 2 double beds (maybe queens.) The other bedrooms are upstairs. Two of the queen/king rooms have a sliding dividing door between them. One of the queen rooms and the twin/trundle room are at the end of the hall and share the bath with the large soaking tub that has a shower handle but no shower. There is a half bath off the kitchen but the sink is not useable due to not being able to turn on/off the water at the faucets. There is also NO legal streetside parking for motorhomes, trailers, boats, etc. This caused a significant problem for us. We had hoped to park our motorhome on the street after finding out that low-hanging branches prevented us from parking in the parking area on site as we were told we could do before arriving. There is only one way in and out of the parking area due to the antique fence on the streetside. We ended up keeping our motorhome at an RV park 15 minutes away, at some expense. While the host offered to cover our costs, we declined -- we just wished we could have parked the motorhome on site. The host/owner was generally very responsive to our requests but she does live on the property (on the back side of the carriage house.) The property has a lot of great potential with decluttering, basic maintenance, and cosmetic upkeep. We enjoyed our time here and it worked fairly well for our family. It could easily be 4 stars instead of 3 with the changes suggested.
