Biggin Hall Country House Hotel

Looking for a weekend break to visit gardens nearby we booked Biggin Hall for 3 nights at the end of June. A beautiful building in a beautiful area we had high hopes when we arrived.These continued when we received a warm welcome from staff at reception we were shown to room 16 and that’s when the disappointment began. I’ll continue with the positives for now which are mainly the food,the dinner menus are fairly short but offered a nice choice and the food was very beautiful , breakfast choice was also good and we enjoyed those too, the complimentary packed lunch is a lovely idea. Staff were friendly and helpful. However we felt the room offered very poor value for money the standard for the price is appalling. We have never stayed anywhere with a bathroom of such a poor standard it was shocking, it’s old fashioned and outdated and appears to have not been updated for a very very long time with black grout, cracked tiles dirty shower rail and very poor quality shower curtain The bedroom is also in dire need of refurbishment, poor quality carpet and poor quality furniture, the sheets and towels were clean but that is the only positive we could give for a room costing £185 per night. We were aware the hotel was full during our stay so there would be no alternative rooms. I rung to speak to the manager the day after we left to discuss the matters and avoid writing this review, he said he would speak with the owners as he was aware of issues with room 16 and get back to me. Unfortunately it’s now been over 8 weeks and I’ve had no reply I feel it’s only fair to leave a review as I would hate anybody else to feel as disappointed as we did with the quality of a hotel room particularly as our opportunities to have a weekend break are so few and far between.

I stayed two nights in a cosy double room. The room was in a cottage on the grounds that had three other rooms. The main hotel was really nice. I had dinner there and breakfast. Food all very good. You were given a packed lunch each morning which was a nice touch. Hotel was lovely and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

I recently stayed at the Biggin Hall Hotel for 3 days with 20 work colleagues and can't recommend the hotel highly enough. It's in an idyllic situation away from any main roads, surrounded by its own gardens and then quiet fields. The food is absolutely superb, with plenty of choice, the drinks list extensive, and the staff really couldn't be more pleasant and helpful. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable with nice touches such as a mini fridge in each room containing fresh milk and a complimentary drink, along with lovely toiletries and fluffy towels. From the hotel there are lots of footpaths, including to the nearby Tissington Trail, Biggin Dale (and thence Wolfscote Dale) or Hartington. It's about 5 miles to the North end of Dove Dale.
