"we spent our New Year's Eve 2023/2024 here. Room: our room was large, clean, modern and bright. A minibar is included in the room. We had booked the New Year's Eve package, which included drinks from the minibar, only non-alcoholic drinks, which were also refilled daily. A mini safe is included in the room. Our room had a nice view of the castle/park. The bed was good, you could sleep well in it. Bathroom: the bathroom was also modern, bright and clean. I found the shelf a bit small, you couldn't put much down. Everything was also available in the bathroom: hair dryer, make-up mirror, soap, lotion, shower gel. The shower also had enough space. Breakfast: the selection was very good, everything was there and it was delicious too. Lots of delicious specialties from the region. It was also quickly refilled. General: the hotel is located a little up the mountain. The center can be reached on foot from the hotel. There is enough parking. WiFi is free, but the connection in the room is not always available. The hotel is large, modern and clean. This hotel also has a wellness area, but we didn't use it. Dinner: our New Year's Eve package included 2 x half board, each with a 3-course menu. On the day of arrival I was asked if I had any intolerances, which I stated. On the second evening I had to point out myself that I couldn't tolerate the soup, I was offered a "substitute soup", but I wasn't at all impressed. Pure water with powder?? Others are offered a fine, tasty soup, and my soup consists of water with powder or whatever, which is what a 4-star hotel offers?? Why was I asked about any intolerances when I arrived? Do I have to understand that? Apart from the substitute soup, everything else was delicious. New Year's Eve: there was a buffet, there were some great things there, which were also delicious. There was also a midnight snack and sparkling wine. What I didn't like was the labelling of the dishes, it would have been more sensible to have cards in front of the hot dishes so that everyone knew what was in them and didn't have to open the lid first. A little more light would also be better. Otherwise it was a lovely New Year's Eve. The hotel didn't have its own fireworks, but you could still see some fireworks in front of the hotel. Anything else? I looked at the bill at home, you have to look twice (read...but it really is on the bill. Since when do you have to pay for a "little gift"? In my opinion, it doesn't cost anything, right?? I've never experienced that. The "little gift" was a 250 g jar of honey, which was in your room when you arrived. The price on the bill is a whopping 20.00 euros. So 20.00 euros for a 250 g jar of honey...I'm at a loss for words. I didn't see any gold leaf in the honey... ... Summary"

"Our stay at this otherwise beautiful hotel turned into a nightmare due to a faulty smoke alarm. Three times during the night, we were jolted awake by the alarm’s piercing sound. Each time, we prepared to evacuate with our children, only to find it was a false alarm. With no staff available and the reception closed, our night's rest was ruined. Desperately, we tried contacting the booking company’s 24/7 support, but even they couldn’t reach anyone at the hotel. This resulted in a sleepless night as we anxiously stayed awake, worried about the repeated alarms' cause. The next morning, we finally spoke to the owner, who attributed the false alarms to sudden changes in air pressure – an unsatisfactory excuse. Fortunately, after discussions between the booking company and the owner, we received full compensation for our stay. However, this did not make up for the sleepless night and sense of insecurity we experienced. Future guests should ensure they get an "In Case of Emergency" number from the owner before going to bed. No one should endure the terror we did, and an emergency number could be crucial for a safe night's sleep. This is a small step to ensure peace of mind during your stay. It is disappointing that a hotel with such potential in beautiful surroundings can fail so critically in terms of safety and customer service. This ordeal is something we would prefer to forget but will, unfortunately, linger in our memories."

"We had already been to the Rothen Forellen in Ilsenburg many (15) years ago and had fond memories of it: Nice room, very good food, the spa area was a bit small back then - but 15 years is a long time, a lot can happen and as far as we know the spa area should have been renovated or expanded about 8 years ago. The reception was nice and friendly. Our rooms were in an annex and the floor of our room had been renovated. Unfortunately, they neglected to replace the furniture, which was really showing its age. The furniture is certainly high-quality solid wood, but compared to other 5-star hotels it is from a different era. In the wellness area there are still small saunas (2 or 3), a small swimming pool and a relaxation room with a view of the pond. The restaurant is nicely designed and located by the pond. The staff are friendly and helpful, but sometimes overwhelmed. We were not accompanied to our table, but were shown to it from a distance. Our menus at the table showed two three-course meals and two four-course meals (a four-course meal had been ordered for us in advance!). Because the menu sequence was starter-soup-main course and dessert, we were very surprised when the soup was served first. However, we did not send it back, but simply changed the order for ourselves. We were not very pleased with the slices of bacon that hung over the edge of the soup bowl in the pumpkin soup... The soup itself was very salty, and bacon had certainly been cooked with it. The starter was advertised on the menu as duck fricassée with rice and vegetables - sounds like a main course at first, but who knows how the chef interpreted that, after all, it is only a starter. However, it was served exactly the same and was a (very) large starter! For us, it didn't really fit into the menu in this form. For the main course, we had three pasta dishes and one meat dish. The pasta dishes were OK, not very hot and served with cold cocktail tomatoes... The meat was unfortunately tough, but was remade without any problems and was then good. The dessert was the only course that really promised what was advertised: chocolate cake with sorbet - good portion, good selection of components, good taste! Only the espresso, which had been expressly ordered for after dessert, came beforehand. When we wanted to have a nightcap at the bar afterwards, the restaurant staff told us that all three bartenders were sick and that they themselves had actually already finished work. We could order another beer. In fact, we got a gin and tonic. But there was no one there to pay. The once very good cuisine has deteriorated considerably (perhaps due to Corona??). To be honest, all in all, some things were not as we expected."
