The Star Inn

Me and my partner came to this pub. After having a lovely Day Out driving around in our campervan, we popped in for something to eat. We were greeted. A nice quiet atmosphere and a Polite lady behind the bar. We ordered a fish pie and a 10 oz Cornish ribeye steak. While we were waiting we took our drinks outside they had no lighting. Or warning signs, we both nearly tripped over to completely invisible steps. We had a laugh about it and carried on with our evening. After a short while we returned to our table where the food promptly arrived. I noticed that the steak I had ordered as rare had been served as medium rare to well done. On top of that it was completely dry and flavourless. I had to eat most of it with ketchup. The chips looked great but again no flavour. I used a lot of salt and pepper just to try and make the meal more tolerable. After eating the steak, I'm finishing off the chips. I tried the peas, I spat them out immediately. I have never ever accounted anyone that can't make good peas. It is so simple, even buying a simple bag from the supermarket. And just adding a bit of sugar to the water can give them a lovely sweet flavour. These were not only incredibly dry, they were completely disgusting and did not feel properly cooked. My Partner had a similar experience with her fish Pie, however, I think she enjoyed it more than I enjoyed mine. She said that it was just okay. She had the same reaction with the peas. They also had not removed the starter from the bill, that they had informed us they had ran out of mushrooms so we said we would just have the mains. I had to point this out. But this should have been removed and not tried to have been charged for in the first place. I would have said something about the food while I was there. But as I know, they will only offer to try and replace it and I will not eat food from someone I've probably just insulted. God knows what they would do. I was very surprised when I got home and found that this pub had 4.4 stars. Perhaps we caught them on a bad day but we will not be going back. * Bit of an update I have had communications with someone who I believe is the pub owner on Facebook. Unfortunately, she does not feel like she can hold any responsibility or apologise for the state of the food. I have found her to be completely unprofessional, rude and condescending in communicating with me. After this experience, I am glad I didn't say anything at the time. I wish all visitors to this pub good luck

Came here twice while on holiday. The hunters chicken was cooked perfectly and my nan and grandad had fish and chips. We also came for the Sunday roast and the meat was good. We all cleared our plates. There are lots of choices on the menu. You get a good portions for your money.

This is a lovely village pub with a friendly welcome and great service. We had booked which we would recommend as its get very busy. The pub has a car park on the side. Two lunches with a choice of meats were £12 each and you could have three meats if you wanted. We tried between us the beef, pork, turkey and ham and all were excellent. There was plenty of vegetables and extra gravy. Also there is a side of Cauliflower Cheese. Nice choice of Tarquin gins and well kept St Austell Proper Job. A really good find !
