A Strategic Location Ruined by Deceptive Room Charges First, a crucial warning for future guests: Make sure you are checking into the correct building—Calmette Hotel 151 (151 Calmette St). Do not confuse it with the hotel right next door, which shares a very similar name but features a notoriously rude receptionist who yells at people. The staff at this specific property are polite, but my stay was heavily overshadowed by a deeply frustrating checkout experience. My absolute biggest issue with this hotel is the complete lack of transparency regarding room charges. Management desperately needs to put a price menu in the rooms. They leave drinks in the fridge and instant cup noodles out in the open, making them look entirely complimentary. Naturally, I consumed them, only to be completely blindsided at checkout when they demanded extra payment. Charging guests for unmarked items without any prior warning is unacceptable and feels deceptive. As for the room itself, I booked a Deluxe and it was mediocre at best. The facilities are undeniably dated. To give credit where it is due, the essentials like the A/C and water pressure still work fine, but the property clearly shows its age. The location is the only major saving grace. It is incredibly strategic—right in the heart of District 1, just a short walk to Ben Thanh Market, Takashimaya, and great local food. However, know that this place operates more like a budget hostel. After midnight, the front door is secured with a literal bicycle chain. Worse, the receptionist sleeps right in the lobby. If you come back late, you are forced to wake him up just to get inside. It is a highly uncomfortable and awkward setup, and I genuinely felt bad for the staff member. The location is great, but the sneaky charges for the "complimentary" snacks and drinks left a terrible taste in my mouth. If you stay here, do not touch anything in the fridge or on the counter unless you are prepared for a surprise bill!

The lady receptionist was really helpful throughout the stay we were there and always so accommodating to my requests to the point that I’m worried that I may be being difficult customer.

Friendly staff, great location. But the hotel room is different from what you saw. It’s basically a neat old room. I would only recommend to those who looking for a budget room. Nothing fancy with this price. And please remember to ask for a quiet room….or else I don’t think you would be able to sleep well
